Incredible new LOWBALL Registry coins - how's bout some Poor-1 GOLD & SILVER???

Been awhile but just added some incredible new LOWBALL coins to my #1 ranked LowBall gold type set: Pocket Piece Lowball Gold Type set

Here's the new coins:

1873 $1 Gold Type-3, VG10. Replaces an XF40. Ever try to find low grade and worn $1 gold that's not jewerly, cleaned or bent......talk about scarce! Pop 1/0 lower

1856-S $5 Gold No Motto, Fair-2. Pop 1/0 lower

1915 $5 Gold, Fair-2. Pop 1/0 lower

1880 $10 Gold, Poor-1. Pop 1/0 lower

1878-S $20 Gold, Poor-1. Pop 1/0 lower

1907 $20 Gold St Gaudens Hi Relief, Fair-2 (was AG3 OGH). Pop 1/0 lower

Poor-1 grade is very very hard to find - to add 2 more coins to my set is a HUGE change. Hope to add pics of these new coins shortly!

  • Uncirculated gold is merely very expensive. Heavily circulated gold that isn't damaged--now that is a challenge! Gold double eagles in particular tended to spend the bulk of their lives sitting pampered in bank vaults.

Nearly as high grade as your roosies...image

Ah Bill, my roosie is only an AG3. Tell ya what, I'll give you $100 for a PCGS PO01 slabbed silver roosie. Ready for a real challenge big boy? And you think PCGS MS68 roosies are hard to make.....just wait!

Do you have any history on those coins; that is what I think would be cool to know a little bit about how they got to that condition.

Had to be a pocket piece, which makes the question just how long did the previous owner carry that thing?

  • I'd imagine it had to be a pocket piece from when it was minted in 1907 to about last Thursday.

....and another pop-bottom smoothie..... 1797 16-star dime PCGS PO01 pop 1 / 0 lower....replaces the more scarce 1796 PCGS FR02 pop 3/0 in my set. Found this one on ebay, date-less, and sent 4 pages of attribution information to PCGS to help them positively identify the coin (mostly die break info). Either they looked at it or the grader was one sharp cookie and an expert at numistatic forensics to deal with such a basel state coin.

Does this coin have a visible date, or did they grade ti based on the mintmark and it being a Type I? I'd love to see pics of this coin and the others on your last submission.

Yes, type-1 + partial D mint mark were the characteristics used for positive ID. Took 4 years to make a PO01 to replace my current FR02. Still need to make a type-2 in PO01....
