does anyone know re: authentic but altered cards

i'm considering buying something that i'd be guarunteed to be authentic, but not that it hasn't been altered. i know that PSA will not holder such a card, but will any of the reputable services?

SGC will holder trimmed for sure. For other altered it's best to call before submitting.

Depending on the value of the card, PSA might holder it w/o a grade and with the flaw mentioned in the flip.

    yes be dialing
  • that's so interesting on PSA. i JUST talked to customer service woman and she told me PSA would not do that. maybe it's a newer policy? or maybe she didn't know what she was talking about.

  • Just curious, what card are you considering buying?

PSA will slab most cards authentic if you request it.

PSA did one for me, a 1952 Topps Mays, but it took 3 submissions with it being sent back 2 times unholdered after I had written what I wanted on my submission. I finally submitted directly to Carol at the Philly show and it was done in a week.

Last month I sent in some cards for grading and I knew that some of them would come back trimmed or altered because of a prior submission, anyways I asked Customer Service what to do and she told me to write on top of the Submission order to mention if trimmed or altered please grade authentic. I just got my results back yesterday and the cards were labeled trimmed and altered. This morning I made a early call to PSA and explaned the situation to PSA (Christy). She told me trimmed cards would be easier to authentic then altered cards as a rule and also the rarity of the card. Christy called me back and told me that they are going to authentic all my cards. I think if it happens again I will draw lines and arrows to what my instructions for the cards so they there isn't much of a chance that they miss it, but keep in mind that they are not required to authentic any cards per se.

I tried to get a 55 Aaron (Accugrade 7) holdered as "authentic" in the last sub. Craig specifically asked for it to be holdered as authentic(trimmed) and asked Joe about it before we subbed the card. Joe said it depends on the grader that received the card. Needless to say it is coming back unholdered.

    Consistently inconsistent
