I'd like a roll of gold compounds, please.

For all we know, "gold compound" is/are tanker(s) full of low grade gold ore. (which is my bet on how one gets to a weight of 3000 metric tons)

The rest of the article is drawing conclusions that are not there in my opinion.

Interesting to note that lots of this weight is going to Singapore. My guess is that Singapore is refining ore to get gold to send to India.

I know a few places where one can get low grade gold ore in the deserts. I find the rocks to be highly uninteresting.
