1888-O Morgan VAM 7A R7 question! Updated 10-6-09!

Hey guys, first off, sorry for the bad pictures, I had to take them very quickly. I found this coin in a junk bin at the Jacksonville coin show yesterday. There appears to be some gouges of some sort that continue underneath the denticles. Could this be a new VAM, or is it just a planchet flaw?


Edited to add: Turns out it's a VAM 7-A R7!! Thanks guys, I don't know how I missed it on Vamworld!

Do ya'll have any idea on the value of this coin? I see one for sale on APMEX for $150 and have received an offer from a forum member for $200.

I would say it's worth at least $200. DennisH would be the one to ask regarding any recent sales, but this is a relative newcomer to the wider VAM market and it's likely difficult to establish a price at this time.

Do you guys think this coin would grade at PCGS after an acetone bath to remove the gunk on the reverse?

Hey guys, Sorry to dig up an old thread, but what do you think about the value when you take this recent eBay auction into account?

Here's the picture of the coin from that auction, which sold for $499!

Paul -- Someone wanted an example very badly, because that one looks like a scrubbed & cleaned POS. I don't have a single recorded sale for this VAM in the VAMview archives, which tells us how scarce they are. $200 for a VF seems too low. (Heck, even I'd pay that!)

Thanks Dennis! Well, now you have one for the archives. I think I'm going to send mine to NCS next time I go home to get the gunk off the back of my example. Then I'll have to explore my options for selling it.
