Are the majority of posters...

here, collectors of British material, or is it just the British collectors, who are the most vocal and willing to post?

Gary

PS. I'm a serious collector of Bolivia, and eventually (I hope the check book will hold out) of South America.

I am not sure if there are just more British collectors here or if those of us who collect British just post more. However, many of the British collectors here also collect or are interested in other things.

+1. Although British coins were my roots of collecting and I am still collecting fractionals I've also diversified into world gold.
Having said that I will generally buy any coins that I like to look of and that also includes US coins.

  • I collect Canadian coins but have fallen hard for the British stuff that gets posted on this site.
As a result i now collect both. Working on a complete set of Victoria Florins in Mint-state.
Prices for all nice Florins at Long Beach went way above expectations it seems?

I have some very special British material, but I can't resist the variety of Latin America. Here are some Bolivians just for you!

I think the British collectors just happen to be the loudest. I collect German States also though, just lately haven't bought any.

I collect aluminum coins, notgeld, Argentina, Brazil, Etc.... But, I actally purchase whatever floats my boat at the time. I have really not focused on any particular series or country and will sell anything from my collection except the previous categories I mentioned.

As a kid, I liked collecting coins from all over the world. Now I collect Brit coins almost exclusively since I grew up there, but like SA farthings as well. My daughter and I also collect state quarters an other miscellaneous US stuf, but there's not much interesting to write about on that front and certainly only face value investments.

There are times when there's very little going on here relating to British material. You came in here during a peak of activity, I guess.

Thanks for the replies so far. It seems that collectors of British and British Colonial are by far, the largest group of posters to the World boards. Kudos to you guys!My original post should have stated British Colonial as well since there was a time that the 'sun never set on Great Britain'. That said, I hope to begin my learning process with regards to coin photography soon so I can give you guys a run for your money.image

I don't collect much British - just the occasional nice pieces I may encounter. For modern, mostly German, Middle East, French and British Colonies.

South America is quite popular and quality coins are far more difficult to find than folks think.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

  • Central American coins are also popular! image

Oho! I can't resist that one, mate. Y'see, I speak both forms fluently.

I'm not sure that this makes sense! I'm a third generation American. What does that have to do with anything?

I'll try and explain. I was making the assumption that most collectors will collect coins from their own country as those coins will be more immediatly available to them. This site being US based uses English as its written medium so will largely attract although not exclusively english speakers. Hence the apparent preponderance of collector on here collecting British or British colonial material. My second remark was my British sence of humour getting the better of me by making a tong-in-cheek remark at the expense of our new-world cousins, who seem to have developed their own version of the english language, affectionately know as Microsoft English, whoops their I go again.

While I like British coins I don't actively collect them. My non-US interests are mainly in early modern and modern East Asia and inter-war continental Europe.

British coins, like Canadian and Mexican coins, both have large camps of followers.

It's always good to see some who specialize in other countries. I'm partial to Irish coins myself, but love the whole world, numismatically speaking. You'll find some company with your enthusiasm for Latin American coins, and some very knowledgeable company, at that.

I collect a little bit of everything. When you asked about the British, just for the fun of it I decided to count what I had. 600 different with only a complete modern farthing set. Also 500 extras. Amazing that there are so many varieties out there. I don't really speciallize in British either. Love Canadian, French, Spanish, Italian, Cuban, Panama, German, Mexico etc.

I collect whatever I like and can afford. There's a lot of British in my collection but it's not what I focus on.

In totals of my collection it ranks 4th.
