Can anyone ID these mystery coins?

I have driven myself almost insane trying to ID these coins and had no luck at all. Many thanks in advance!

That first one looks really cool! My guess is Spain for a few of them (you can make out Hispania on the third to last, and Philip on the last, and some others bear resemblance to Spanish coins). Good luck; someone will come around who knows something about them, unlike myself.

  • that first silver one is really fascinating! the others all appear to be 1556-1665 spanish copper coins, most of them heavily counterstamped-- Lord Marcovan metal detected one of these old spanish coppers on an island off the coast of Georgia! That first oone though, wow-- really puzzling

It's true- the 1658 4-maravedi piece I dug has this sort of look, and I too was baffled until I made out the king's monogram.

I can see a "Philippus" monogram on this one:

Most of 'em are probably Spanish, but I'm not sure on some, particularly the silver one at the top.

It's fun enough just to see him stumped, for a change. Doesn't happen often.

Yeah, he's not so dumb for a dead guy. Nor is he quite as dumb as he looks.

It's true that I am not as dumb as I look, it's just too bad that this is how I look:

  • where did you come by that silver coin (unless you don't care to divulge)? By the obverse, I would guess Celtic, but the crude letters on the
reverse say something else entirely-- now it's driving me crazy too! A wild out of left field guess would be mid 1600s Irish emergency coinage-- many of those silver coins were very crude

I have had these for so long I don't remember the source. Hadn't thought of Ireland, or even Europe on that first one. I had assumed that like the others it was Spanish or Latin American.
