With the exception of the Ultra High Relief no gold, silver or platinum eagles are planned for release directly to consumers in 2009. By law the mint has to meet public demand for bullion silver and gold eagles. Mint does this through third party dealers and is having a difficult time keeping up with that.

Why do I get the feeling they'll be made with single-digit mintages for friends in high places?

Like most everything coming out of the Mint this year, this statement is a load of crap!!

Don't tell anyone, but I have heard, the ASE Proof will be released on 7-19, the ASE "W" on 8-15, and the APE (Proof Only) on 9-1.
