USPS-No delivery on Tuesdays??

Thought I would ask this here as its the most active forum. In the last 3 months I've noticed a pattern at my post office. A while back I read an article about USPS Dropping a day of delivery and I'm wonder if they have put it in to effect. I purchase many items from eBay mainly every month. I receive 50-100 packages every month. I received at least 1 package every single day and normally multiple packages. Every day that is except Tuesdays. I've been keeping track of my deliveries since I noticed the trend. Sure enough I have yet to receive a package in the last 12 Tuesdays. I spoke with the postmaster at my small time post office about this and she stated that she has noticed this as well. She said they never receive any packages that contain tracking or insurance on Tuesdays. She couldn't tell me when it started or why. I did receive a package this Tuesday after Mem. day however I expected it was b/c of the holiday everything was one day off. Sure enough I did not receive anything on Wednesday.
Do you receive any packages with tracking on Tuesday or is this just happening in my town? I do not even venture to the post office on Tues. anymore unless I have something to ship.

Its all relative

I think Wednesday would make more sense...? 2 days no mail... and three if it's a Holiday??

What does that have to do with the USPS? Please, do tell.

Isn't the USPS part of the government or at least a government corporation?

<< <i>I think the above reply is somewhat correct. Many years ago I worked for a business that received huge volumes of mail every day except Tuesday. The reason? Most packages only take 2 days unless going coast to coast. Since we received from other businesses, andy they were all closed on Saturday, they did not mail anything on Saturday, thus, we received very little, if anything on Tuesdays (two days excluding Sunday). Although in your case I would think some ebay sellers would mail on Sat >>
I agree. I have been in this coin shop for 20 years, and Tuesday has always been the slow mail day.

Yes. The same USPS that has steadily lost revenue since 2001. The temporary "change" is to stop the bleeding. What a terrible idea.

The USPS is often mistaken for a government-owned corporation (e.g., Amtrak), but ... is legally defined as an "independent establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States," as it is wholly owned by the government and controlled by the Presidential appointees and the Postmaster General. (source) The current Postmaster General has held the position since June 2001.
FYI, the move to eliminate one delivery day was driven primarily by fuel costs, the USPS operates the largest private fleet of vehicles in the world and spends billions of dollars on fuel every year (check the wiki link above for more details). None of which applies to the OP's question, as the policy is not in effect and as others have stated anecdotally Tuesday is the slowest day for package delivery and has been for decades.

<< <i>My local branch is now closed on Saturdays and closes 30 minutes earlier during the week. But the good news is postage rates went up. Just mailed a $750 registered package within the same state for $17.96. >>
Higher postage rates and reduced service levels are not likely to solve the USPS' current dilemma. Businesses are abandoning them wherever possible to save money. For any envelope larger than a #10 envelope they want 88 cents for the first ounce. Small businesses will adopt their own versions of change they can believe in and the USPS will find itself with even less revenue.
When speed counts businesses go Fedex and not USPS.
In 2007 I was paying USPS at least $200 a month for business correspondence. Now I pay under $50 a month by sending most of my correspondence by email including most attachments. My high volume Xerox scanner paid for itself in just two months.
The real crunch at USPS will come when paperless billing and bill paying are embraced by the public in a big way. Then the real postal rate increases start.
