There is something wrong with this pictureimage The ONLY set that is completely in MS state and complete is rated #9image set #1 has 2 AU coins, #2 also has 2, #3 has 4, #4 is completly missing one, #5 has 1 Au and missing one coin, #6 has 2 AU, 1 XF and missing one coin, #7 is missing a coin, and #8 has 2 AU and 1 XFimage
Am I the only one looking at this and woundering?image

None of that stuff matters right now the way it is set up. All they go by now is the % complete and the average grade of the set. Once PCGS adds weighting to the Morgan Dollar series, a lot of sets will change their ranking both up and down based on the rarity of the coins in each set.

  • That is a 97 coin set. There are 10 sets currently %100 complete and 4 that need one more Morgan. That seems like a competitive series! People are updating their sets too.

what is wrong with add 2 points for DMPL and add 1 point for PL it much the same as the Franklin proof halves. I think this is a simple solution, but nontheless a better way than what is there. imageimageimage

  • PTVETTER,

The sets with some AU coins rank higher than the completely MS set because the other coins in the set grade higher.

BTW, I think 0.5 extra points for PL and 1 extra point for DMPL would be more appropriate given the current market values.

  • PTVETTER,

I agree with you on how the DMPL's and the PL's should be weighted. It should bring a little more sense to the Morgan registry set.
  • Thank's to ptvetter for taking note about number 9. PL's and DMPL's are more RARE than regular strikes. I know the owner of the nineth rated set of Morgans. I know he wants the PL's to get the credit they deserve.
MrG has been waiting over a year to get the weighting his set deserves.

I meet the man at the Hagerstown coin show and we had a short conversation. I'm the type that sometimes will stand up for others when the situtation call for it. I really believe that this series needs looked at. I wounder if david hall will contact me on this???
