  • Which US coin has had the most impact on our nation? Personal opinion here strictly, but I would say Lincoln cent. Its made it through 100 years and is still here.

Which US coin has had the most impact on the world? I would think the Trade $1 would be a good coin for this question because it was made to use internationally.

Which US coin has caused the most conflict or controversy? This could be the Chain cent, the 1916 SLQ, or the Lincoln. Or a good number of other series.

I can think of a number of candidates for each of these questions.

Which US coin has had the most impact on our nation? The Lincoln Cent due to it's longevity and production numbers.

Which US coin has had the most impact on the world? The Lincoln Cent due to the production numbers; long after there is no USA there will be cents found by archaeologists.

Which US coin has caused the most conflict or controversy? The Lincoln Cent due to the "V.D.B.," the 43 Copper, the Shell Casing, the 55 DDO, the Wheat Stalks vice Memorial, the Copper vice Zinc, and now the availability of the four types of 2009.

As for a single US coin that has caused controversy, that has to be the 1853 USAOG "Proof" $20 gold pieces that were marketed by John Ford in 1958 as part of the "Franklin Hoard".

It wasn't until 2008 that these pieces were declared to be "Transfer Die Forgeries".

There have been numerous people and various organizations that have been passionately involved with this 50 year, highly opinionated, controversy.

My forthcoming John Ford & the "Franklin Hoard" book will reveal a great deal of actual source material regarding this issue.

Most Influential Coin? Probably the Small Cent.

Most International Impact? Tough call, but Seated Dollars became something of a world currency as few circulated in the USA, most saw use overseas.

    Most controversial? T1 SLQ.
