Just because the certs match up doesn't mean the seller has the cards, especially if you think it's a suspicious deal in the first place.

If it's an ebay auction, post the URL link or the ebay item number, and we can offer an opinion.
  • it's a local thing. thanks

There's been a lot of re-sealed PSA slabs showing up on Craigslist with cert numbers copied from real ones. Make sure you educate yourself as to what the various PSA labels look like, also, don't just take the label's word for it. Inspect the card itself for condition and validity. If it looks fake, it probably is.

I know...ya don't wanna post nothing for fear someone here might contact the seller and offer a better price.

I, er I mean "they" wouldn't ever do that now would they? LOL

    The best one

    link
  • according to that site:
14414364 1952 TOPPS MICKEY MANTLE GOOD 2 MC
    14414365 1952 TOPPS MICKEY MANTLE EXCELLENT-MINT 6

kind of weird. the card i'm talking to someone about is the latter.
  • the image i have been sent from the seller is definitely not a 2 and definitely not MC, though.

  • For sake of argument, please assume that the cards are what they claim to be. The next question is, of course, whether they're stolen. Does anyone know of any good resource? I have googled the PSA serials and gotten nothing.

If you try to add the cards to a registry set and they belong to someone else, you will not be allowed to add them and the owner will get an email that someone is trying to add them.

If I had a stolen 52 topps mantle and wanted to sell it I would crack it out of the holder and get it regraded. I would not sell it in that slab, because I would get caught 100% of the time.

People here are trying to help you not get robbed.

Also of course be aware that whoever you're going to meet somewhere about these cards will know you're going to be there with a lot of cash.

Read this thread about the craigslist cards in cracked psa slabs that Lee tried to warn you about.

    Bad assumption.
  • thanks for that. i guess that's true. hmmm... as for conjecture on assumptions, etc., it's just conjecture. that's why i'm discussing.

If you are in the market for a 52 Mantle why not buy one from a reputable dealer?

If this 'local' seller is selling low there is a reason.

    Good for you.

There was a scammer on ebay on and off for the last few years, selling slabbed 52 mantles, I think the ebay ID was something like josefina and they would always put white pieces of paper on the card to prove they had it. The slabs were cracked open and filled with reprints, fakes, or altered mantles.

    Just be very careful.

  • what sealed the (Not to buy) deal was I said I'd buy it via Ebay's escrow program and he said no. So I called him some extremely rude names and that was that.
