1968 Topps Baseball set- selling thoughts

I'm not a frequent poster so please excuse me if I make any rookie mistakes. I am turning to you all for any thoughts or ideas on selling a completely graded set. For the past several years I have been building a 1968 Topps Baseball set. My goal was to have it all graded as PSA 8's or better, with no qualifiers. I finally completed it early last year and it was a great feeling being able to enter that final card. Well now my wife and I are looking to purchase a home and I need to sell it. I'm looking for thoughts and opinions on the best way to go about it. I really don't want to break it up and sell them off individually. I have heard some varying opinions on using private auction houses or Ebay, but I wanted to see if anyone has any other thoughts. Also I am looking for thoughts on a price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John

First of all, great looking set! Munnyman's PSA '68 Topps Set
I would suggest contacting one of the major auction houses in order to get the most for your set!
Personally, Huggins & Scott is the one I'd go with. I've used them a couple of times over this past year and have been very pleased with their service and the prices I received for my items.
They will help you decide the best way to sell your set; whether to break it or sell it whole.
You might even be able to work out a 0% commission deal with them; but if not, it's still cheaper and easier than selling on eBay.
Here's a Low-End Ungraded '68 Topps Set that's currently running, just to give you an idea. Of course, pricewise, your set will bring a far higher price .... how much? I have no idea, but I'm sure they can give you a few ballpark figures.
Anyway, I wish you the best and hope you get the most for your set!

Although SMR lists the value at around $11K for a set in PSA 8 it is unlikely you'd be able to get that for your set. There are just so many cards graded in PSA 8 for the 1968 Set. It is a very popular set though. You just might do best breaking the set up and selling it that way. But if you're looking to sell it ASAP... then going the Auction House route would be best. I have the #2 set on the PSA Set Registry for the 68 Topps. I'm not really sure what your set would sell for as a whole set as I don't really follow the prices on PSA 8's. If I was to make a guess... it would be around $5K-$7K at best. If you're thinking more.... I certainly hope my guess is incorrect I believe REA sold a completed PSA graded set with a GPA of 8.94 in their May Auction and it went for around $30K?
What auction house should you use? Perhaps one of the finest is REA (Robert Edward Auctions). They and most of the other auction houses have just completed their Spring Auctions near the start of May. Most all are now accepting consignments for their summer auctions. Other auction houses are Legendary Auctions (formerly known as Mastro Auctions) they actually have an auction coming up on July 31, 2009 and the consignment deadline is May 31st so you'd have to act fast if you were going with them. Others are Mile High Card Co. and Memory Lane. If you have a copy of SMR from PSA you could find the contact info for all of these (and more) auction companies.
Best of luck whatever you should decide to do!
