I'm outta the race.

Brothers, something very fortunate happened to me a couple weeks ago in terms of coin collecting. I got to undo something that I wished I'd never done in the first place. I got back an MPL that I wished I'd never sold.

My set is now complete because this old friend is back. There is nothing more to be done with my MPLs. I'm very satisfied with where it's at so I decided to retire my set.

By it's nature, the registry puts you in a competition with all the other sets. Financially, it's beyond my realm to climb any higher unless I trade in some of the ones that I now have. That's a lesson that I've already learned and I ain't gonna do it again. My set is no longer competing with any other set. It's now going to reside in my brand new home safe and it doesn't have to compete with anyone but Mrs curly.

Mrs curly just told me that the set is beating her pretty handily.

Please don't misinterpret my post. I'm not getting out of coin collecting and my MPLs are definately not for sale. I'm just dropping outta the registry race, that's all.
Every man is a self made man.

    Jack,

Congratulations on a great journey. It's been quite a pleasure to view your set as you assembled one of the greatest non Red sets. It will definitely be missed as I look towards to top of the ladder. One thing I'll take and keep from your set is the great friendship and bond we've developed in the course of your hunt and mine. Awesome job, Brother.image

Great job Curly. Registry sets make one never want to stop going higher and it takes someone with some real sense to make the call of knowing where you want to stop the madness.

I'm just glad I could be the custodian of the "candy apple" and help put it back in it's rightful place. Just curious... do you think now that the set's destined for retirement, maybe a photo archive is in order? I for one would love to be able to see the set in it's final form.

And congratulations! I just hope that I can hold on for the ride for as long as you did. You set a mighty fine benchmark, and no matter what the numbers say, your set will always be topps in my book.

Congratulations, Brother! It is a wise man who knows when to stop and move on to other things (like Flying Eagles). That is one fine set and I am glad you are going to enjoy it for many years to come!

    Congrats Curly.

Your enthusiasm and passion were infectious for many MPL collectors. From personal experience, I think you will actually enjoy them more now. Way to go!!!

    Curly -

When I first started to collect MPLs, your set was the one set that stood out from all the others for me - your coins and their wonderful colors got me hooked!

I am happy you have achieved your goal and I too hope to be wise enough someday to recognize my limits and dedicated enough to follow through with them!

    Again, congratulations!

Although I don't collect MPL I've enjoyed viewing the beauty of your set. Hope you'll post one every now and than.

Congratulations to one classy guy! We all know when we are 'satisfied' and that is really the name of the collecting game. I'm very happy for you, and feel lucky to have been able to honor my dad with your wonderful 1910! Thank you, Jack.

    Sincerely,

You've got an incredible set, but ... you may very well see another one at some point that you could add. Maybe you can "unretire" your set if you still have all the coins. I think they would let you do that as long as you didn't sell them.
