Anyone else finding wheat cents like there's no tomorrow?

Out of the (exactly) 200 cents I've found this year, 27 have been Wheats. This is a higher percentage than I was expecting.

Anyone else having similar results?

Someone on another MD board explained it that many people are cashing in their coins because of the economy so there are more oldies out there.

    Huh, now that's interesting!

From what I can tell though, only one has been dropped recently (it was right on top). Maybe I'm just getting lucky? Or is this standard?

I dug my first one of the year today out of over 300. It all depends on the sites you detect.

in the mid 1980's, i used to dig between 30-100 wheat cents a month. recently they seem to be getting harder to find.
  • I have only dug 6 ever, out of probably 750 cents, or more? My most recent was last weekend, a 1946 D.

Funny you should mention findsing more wheaties these days. I found another one today in the local CoinStar machine. This one was a 1954 which is very random as that's the year I was born. image I've found 3 so far this year and it's only May! -Mary
