Spanish cob

Came as a gift way back, but know was purchased at a
coin show in Southern California area in about 1994.

Anyone know approx. date and where minted?

Thanks

  • not sure where it was minted, but it's very nicely centered for a spanish colonial cob

I don't think it's colonial. The only legible text on it is the "S" mintmark and "B" mintmaster's mark. The only "S" mintmark I could find in the catalogue is Seville mint, European Spain; mintmaster Juan Vicente Bravo's "B" mark was on coins from 1592 to 1611.

Listed in Krause under Spain, KM# 36.2.
