OT: Going to H-town What do I do?

I am headed to Houston (via Dallas) Friday morning to take in three Rangers-Astros games over the weekend. I will be wearing my road grays! I got a great deal on Hotwire.com and I am staying downtown at the Hilton of the Americas. Couple of questions as I know there are some Houstonites here:

1. According to Google Maps the hotel is .6 of a mile from Minute Maid park. Is there a shuttle from the hotel or area to the park? Am I walking through downtown, is the neighborhood save? All I am familiar with is the Ballpark in Arlington, which if I have to walk 6/10s of mile to the stadium I am probably walking along I-30. I would like to save on parking my car at the stadium (extra beer money!) and I plan on drinking a little at the game, so I'd love not to worry about driving for the evening.

2. Any good card shops in Houston? I've found 5 with confirmed addresses using google (Houston Sports Connection, Sportscard Shack, Sports Card & Coins, Sports Collectibles of Houston, and Baseball Card Gallery). I'm not going to Field of Dreams (we have one in our Galleria and I think they are overpriced) and the address listed for My Idol T M doesn't seem to exist in Houston....

3. Good places to eat, drink? Area where there are several bars located near each other?

4. Anyone tried to get autos in person while at Astros games? I'm taking my backpack, which is allowed according to the lady I spoke with from the Astros. Any other policies I should be aware of? I assume the standard time of 1 1/2 hours before first pitch is when the gates will open.

Thanks for all the help!

I'm sure the buses run in that area, the train doesn't go by the park though. A good shop that isn't too far away is down Westheimer toward Katy...Houston Sports Connection, owned by Howard Lau. The others I go to are Odyssey Comics and Cards and 3rd Coast Cards, both in Katy.

I've never felt unsafe walking in that part of town, but I've never walked it at night either.
