Sellers Fee at auction

I was talking to Heritage about consigning some coins and was quoted a 10% seller’s fee on top of the 15% buyers fee the buyer will pay. Is this a normal seller’s fee I only paid 5% with Bowers. I thought this was kinda steep. Any thoughts?

Depends on the dollar amount of the consignment. The 10% is the starting point, and is negotiable all the way down to a negative number, (in other words, some is kicked back to the seller), for very large consignments.

That might be reasonable for say a $1000 consignment or a few multiples of that. Heritage seems to be pulling the best prices while still filling up their catalogues at every auction. Yeah, but a 21.74% net commish (90/115) seems plenty high. That's almost in Teletrade country. If you tossed your coins into a sale via one of the dealers who routinely take consignments, you could effectively bring that rate down to 0% seller's fee or less.

one should seriously consider some ebay buy it nows with prices you
would like to get for the coins.. and then submit what does not sell
    to heritage.

it cannot hurt to try with some optimistic prices on the bay.

I've been getting coupons with most of the coins I've bought with Heritage lately for a 0% seller's fee if I or my heirs consign that coin with them in the future. I figured that was closer to the starting point... didn't imagine it would be as much as 10% on top of the 25%. Seems like going through a dealer you work with is the way to go if it's a small enough consignment to where they won't at least give you the 0% seller's fee.

Hmm... Heritage charged me 5% a year ago on a 5k consignment.

Sellers' fees are negotiable, and larger consignments by volume and value will earn you a lower sellers' fee. In other words, the more the coins and the nicer the coins consigned the better the fee in your favor.
