Another unusual toned coin purchased a while back. The 1916-D PCGS MS-67 barber quarter

This was purchased from Legend Numismatics in 2003 for $8000.00. A strong but not insanely price (IMO) at the time.
The devices has cameo surfaces which is not readily apparent in this old picture. The colors are more vivid but are lighter than appears. The luster clearly shows through the toning.
Sort of a veil over Barber. But then again we never found out if Barber's Liberty was male or female.
It was recently CAC stickered as well. John Albanese of CAC commented that this particular coin "made his day."
Someday, I will get better pictures of this coin.

It kind of blends into the forum backround.
<< <i>I like it!

At first glance I don't like the toning on this one... but could just be the photo as it seems like it might not accurately represent the coin, just guessing that the coin isn't really as white as the background color. Any more pics of this one??

That "someday" is here!
I probably will never own an $8000 coin, heck, what's it worth now?
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
<< <i>Looks like thumbprint-toning
I agree - that was my first thought ...
and once I have a "first impression"
good or bad - I can't shake it.
Regardless its in a 67 holder - I don't like it.

<< <i>The images just don't do it for me, but if the coin has a thick skin then I expect it would be quite attractive. >>
What Tom said.Best,Lloyd
i could easily live with the rev though.
i would not buy it based on those pics.
<< <i>Poor photo of what has to be a great barber. Legend is one of the best dealers for eye appealing quality and Oreville has some of the finest looking coins, so I have to assume the coin fits both the dealer and the present owner. Send it to Mark Goodman please, oh and I forgot John Albanese loved it too, what more needs to be said. >>
i do not think anyone is doubting the grade, the amount of luster,
etc...
it is all a matter if you care for the toning or not which the pictures
show good enough to form an opinion at the very least.

That was all I was trying to do here.
The toning is unusual and half of the people will like and half will not like.
It is subjective which was the point I was trying to convey.
