wheat penny resurrection

BBNBBN Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭
yeah, yeah, I called it a penny. Anyway, I've noticed I have gotten a lot more of these in change lately. The last few years I may have found one every few months. Now I'm finding them in change evey few weeks and for the first time ever I got them on back to back days. Yesterday at McDonald's I got a 1945. Nice chocolate color, probably VF25. Today, I filled up my tank at a local gas station and received a 1952 in F-VF condition. Is it possible that jars and hoards of these things are being released by people who are being affected by the economy??

I think you're right. Same reason they don't need a normal size mintage of 09 coins.

Yeah, my wife got a 1917 in change a few months ago. I am 38 and had NEVER got a cent that old in change.

This is getting me interested in doing a whitman folder of wheaties found in change. See what I can build strictly in change over a 5 year period. image

they have always been there floating around for those to see if they
just opened their eyes and look in my opinion. i was finding more
before the economy tanked compared to the last few months.

everyone's experience will differ of course.

Yeah, my experience has been that I've found much more the last several months. Of course that may just be coincidence. Either way, I love finding them. image

I too have seen more of them recently. I suspect I'll see another wheat cent in change before I see anything dated 2009.

what in the world are you talking about? rain? how was my post
considered negative? whatever. i guess i need to use more smileys
and hop around like a little kid on a sugar high to fit in around here.

i have an album for wheats and have been looking and pulling them
out of circulation for the last few years. my box of dupes is getting
quite full with the pride of the group being a dirty low grade 1909.

hey laugh if you want to but I have been picking up coins on the street...dropped and cast aside. In the last six months the treasures included a 1994 proof quarter..a worn 1910 cent reverse side almost wiped away......a 1920 s in at least fine condition and a cent that I thought was a 1980 something because it was red with alot of luster but it was in fact a 1947 d when I buy a camera I will post pictures.Keep searching your change.image

As a cashier, I come across wheat pennies every few rolls. Every now and than I see a buffelo nickel. In addition, people are starting to buy things with 1950's currency!

I got a 1948 D a couple of weeks ago with a lot of the green crud on it. How do I get that off. Hopefully not Musinex. image

Now, I'm hoping people get so desperate that I start getting some Saints in change.image

  • I recently searched about 40,000 Lincoln circulated bank rolls looking for Wide and Close AM. I averaged about 1 wheatie per roll.

    Any success with those AMs?

They seem to be an unwanted item.
I own 6% of all PCGS graded specimens dated 2000.
Success comes after they tone ....LOL
  • I've found a few 2000p and 1998p, and a single 1999p. Just happened to glance at my wife's proof set and it's a '99s Close AM.

I'll still keep looking. It's fun to look for other varieties.

Suprisingly, DDO or DDR's of any kind. Still got another 15K to search before I give it up.

I'll buy any 1992 p or d mint Close AM if yall are looking to unload...
