Question For Coin Rollers

I work retail, and it puzzles me as to why people bringing in rolls of change have their phone numbers on rolls of pennies. Do they expect someone to return the 50 cents to them if lost?
I like cheese, notes, and coins. In that order.

Back when I was a kid, in the 70s, the banks used to REQUIRE that.
Likely, there are still some that do (maybe small town banks?) and/or some older folks remember having to do that and do it anyway.

In my life, I have had to (bank's request) put on things ranging from my account number to my phone number to my SSN.
I don't do any of the above anymore and haven't for the past 20 years or so, but I do recall the bank requiring those items (just one at any 1 time/bank)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • So many banks and stores require a persons phone number

on each roll incase the roll is short or full of foriegn/slugs.

Some folks put their number on the rolls as a matter of habit.

Like a real cheat would put the right number on a roll if it was bad!!

As mentioned banks often required it in case they discovered they were stiffed later on. Sometimes account numbers were required, too.

Our local small town bank used to require that you put your account # on EVERY roll you brought it, I guess to keep up with who brought what in what to count and deposit later and to see if you shorted them with less than full rolls. I've gotten alot of rolls before with people's account #, SSN, and name on every roll.........ahhh, the good 'ole days when you USED to could do that and not worry about anything.......

...........i guess the practice was to deter clowns that would put coins on the end of the roll sandwiching a bunch of washers.image

Now washers are worth more than the pennies.

The bank near my work made the people put their account numbers on every roll they brought in.

I was into roll searching and asked for a few rolls each day. I turned down solid machine wrapped rolls since I wanted the hand wrapped ones from customers.

One day the teller walked to the manager and said "that guys back again" the manager walked up and grabbed the rolls she was giving me and said "something fishy about wanting customers rolls" and pulled out a black marker and inked over the customer account numbers and slammed them on the counter and sneered like she had outsmarted a crook.

She thought I was getting the rolls to get the account numbers or something. image

  • I remember being in a store several states away from home and trying to spend some rolls at a store. They insisted that I put my phine number on them. So I did. They were happy. The out of state number didn't faze them at all. Probably the clerk following orders without thinking. Once the clerk told me ALL rolls had to be counted. She took half and gave half to me and told me to start counting.
