thinking about doing a modern set- ray lewis

Hey guys
I am 21 years old and it has been quite a few years since I collected someone that I actually watched play. In the late 90s/early 2000's I collected a ton of Packers/Favre cards but that fell by the wayside when I stumbled upon a Starr RC and the '57 football set. That branched out to other vintage sets, and you know the rest. Not that I didnt collect a little modern along the way (mostly Houston Rockets base cards and refractors) but it was just .10 box stuff i liked to put in a binder, nothing serious. However I am thinking about doing the Ray Lewis RC's in psa graded form. Why? Because I actually watched him play, so it might be cool to have his cards! He is the best defensive player of this generation, so perhaps his cards will hold a little value. I bought his 'best' (or what is used on the set registry for him) RC on a whim locally for $5, the Bowmans Best, and it got a psa 10 in the group sub. So that is a good start. Anyway this post has three points:
anyone have any Lewis cards,
is this a silly set to try and put together?
and lastly, does anyone have the pop report numbers for the cards in 9 and 10 from 1996 on ray lewis? I know this might be a big task, but I think he only has like 10-12 cards.

As far as it holding value? Who knows for sure but I dont believe you are thinking of this as an "investment" so the value part should not play a huge role in your thought process, however LB's are not as popular as QB's or RB's and after he retires I doubt his cards will be as highly sought after as much as say Brady or Manning.
Here are the pops for all his base set issued cards:
1996 Bowman's Best 164 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--143, PSA 10--56
1996 Collector's Choice 20 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--9, PSA 10--7
1996 Fleer 165 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--8, PSA 10--9
1996 Pro Line Intense 59 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--0, PSA 10--1
1996 Score Board NFL Lasers 99 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--23, PSA 10--36
1996 Skybox Impact Rookies 6 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--0, PSA 10--2
1996 Stadium Club 351 Ray Lewis----PSA 9--2, PSA 10--2
Best of luck,
Jason

<< <i>Fun set, but the absence of a 96 SP RC kind of sucks. You'll drop the most coin on the Bowman's Best refractor and atomic if you decide to go for the inserts (which I think you should). For some reason he was left out of a lot of sets even though he was one of the top linebackers coming out of college. >>
This almost sounds like useful information, Lee. You're slippin'.
Edited to add that mine is in RAW form... maybe someday I'll have them graded.
1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith
2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter
Why don't you go play some poker you degenerate?
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
I just won 1 of the 2 stadium club psa 10's on ebay for 17 bucks. seems fair to me. I checked my copy and it looks like a card that would be hard to get in mint condition.

The only question of the three that I can answer is:
Is this a silly set to try and put together? If you like the player it is a GREAT set to put together. Since you won't be spending a LOT of money on the set it is NOT an investment ... you are doing it for your enjoyment ... this is a HOBBY as well ... and hobbies exist so we can have fun! Enjoy your new endeavor and good luck with the set!

(This makes post #1952 ... 6 short of my birth year! And don't give me any sh*t about how old I am! LOL)
