Selling on eBay - a lot has changed

So I started to list something today and saw this:
Other payment methods Checks, money orders, and bank wire transfers aren’t allowed for most eBay purchases.
I used to not take paypal at all on big $ items...
Does anyone know when this crap started?
Aside from the huge FVF increase, how else should I expect to get raked over the coals? I saw a thread about a 21 day hold on Paypal payments - hopefully this is for new users only?
Sincerely,
Clueless

You can still accept paper payment only you can't advertise that you do.
As for the hold it is mainly for people that sell low items stuff then all of a sudden sell a
large ticket item, once the buyer leaves feedback the money is released.
If that fails then you can prove it to pp by the DC/SC

Feebay is a disgrace. They should be regulated by the govt. Who are they to say how you should pay. I feel it is a restriction on freedom. Well they say you shop wherever you want.... you don't have to buy or sell at feebay. They have the market now no question but people are pissed ( I know I am) and sooner or later someone is going to take that market share from them (look at GM) and then feebay will get screwed....it's just a matter of time. chaz

A long, long time ago. You must have been away from the hobby or these boards for a while if you missed all the hubbub about this change.

As far as the payment, just "tactfully" list something in the description such as "if you have any questions regarding payment to contact you" and if they are a regular buyer on ebay using money orders, they'll know what you mean by this - Yes, it's a shame that we as sellers have to play these silly games - I still take as many checks and money orders as I used to before the new rule, so it hasn't affected me one bit.
I know you have an impeccable seller reputation on ebay, so I doubt if that 21 day hold is gonna apply to you, but I'm not 100% sure since you haven't sold for awhile. From what I remember reading about this when the rule first came out, it mainly I think applied to electronics and computer sales whereby fraud is rampant.
I guess maybe you're gonna list that autographed ball - good luck - if it goes at the price I wanna pay, I may buy it myself...that is a beautiful ball.
Remember if you take PayPal to use "signature confirmation" on anything selling for over $250
What are some reasons why my payment would be held?
Common reasons for holding eBay payments include (but are not limited to):
* The seller has not yet processed (or accepted) your payment.
* The seller has been an eBay member for less than 6 months, and is selling an item for more than $100.
* The seller has an eBay feedback score of less than 100, and sells an item for more than $100.
* The seller has a Buyer dissatisfaction percentage of 5% or greater.
* The seller has an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of less than 4.5.
* The seller has received fewer than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 12 months.
* The item is listed in a high-risk category, such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers or consumer electronics.
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
<< <i>I have 100% Positive Feedback but hadn't sold something within the last 7 months so the 21 Day Hold applied to me. The one in bold bit me, so eBay says:

What a load of ... I guess I'm in this group too. Years of many hundred problem-free transactions be damned because I haven't done anything for them lately.

I like that flat 5% transaction fee - seems about fair to me versus the ebay ripoff seller fees to pay for their probably 1,000 VP's who likely do next to nothing except collect their fat paychecks.
