Hard choice, i love 52's through 59's,they were all really beautiful sets back when they made nice cards I would have to go with the 52's because of the borders and the toughness of the sp's
Though I am partial to the 52 Set, I agree that the 54 design is better.
The 54s tend to conveniently hide the OC factor sometimes, especially the ones with the white background.
I also like the little "inset" action picture of the player on the 54s.
If I can share a geezer moment with some of you younger guys .... nothing in this hobby has ever given me more joy than opening those packs when I was a kid. The anticipation and excitement of pulling your hero ... the smell of the gum-scented cards ... the taste of the gum ... and the sheer joy of spending time trading cards with your friends! And no one ever thought about making a dime off anybody. Ah, the memories!
i like the 52 better but i own a 54 set, 03 heritage set, and im working on all the heritage autos from 03 set as well.......so i love the 54 design TOO!

Amazing...I'd get excited if I could just watch some video footage of these packs in action, watching mint vintage cards being opened...

no question the 54's have the best backs EVER

Gotta agree completely on the best back design ever for the 1954's. Here is an example of each for comparison.
1954. They were the first old cards I bought as a kid back in the 70s. They were not I. Great shape, but at a quarter a piece it was cool having them. Better backs too.
I'm really shocked - I thought by far more people would go for the classic 52's. I agree the backs on the 54s are much better - but that top border bothers me. Of the two, I'd go for 1952, but of the 50's, I actually like 1956 the best.
Both years are great looking sets however '53 Topps are miniature works of art in a baseball card format--no set prior or after has matched the beauty of the '53 Topps set--'56 is a strong second place... but then that's just one person's opinion.

If I have to choose between the two then I'd pick 54.

Same for me. And I actually like the fact that the '54s don't have a top border. T/B OC cards don't look as bad because of it.

Although I do have several in my HOF collection -- I particularly like the Monte Irvin (the background blends well with the borders)
Always plenty of PSA-graded cards in my ebay store -- https://ebay.com/str/thelumbercompanysportscards
But nothing beats my all-time favorite - 1972!
