    LBJ speaks about silver

    An article by Ted Butler that talks about US silver coinage from 1959 and the cessation of minting 90% silver coins in 1964. In particular, a speech by LBJ defining the reasons for coming off the standard are pariticularly interesting. It basically wraps together to indicate that precious few ounces of all the silver ever mined is still around today.

    Wow, thanks RR. I wonder if it might be wise to invest in old silver mining claims as a good play on the impending global silver shortage that I imagine would have to come to fruition in the next decade or so.

    I'm not sure I get what the author in the article in the original post is getting at. Is he saying those who can should amass tonnes of silver in anticipation of coining their own money in order to create their own fiefdom when the big one comes?

    I understand there is a streak of survivalism, TEOTWAWKI, SHTF -ism in most of us who are attracted to metals. But that's just kooky.
