Question on Heads/Tails Rolls

So I am selling some US Mint rolls of State quarters on eBay and I get this question from a buyer "Can you please tell me if either of these rolls is Heads/Tails?" Can someone tell me what this means and why it would matter? Some of the rolls do have Obverse's on both sides. Anyone know what this is about?

Thanks,

That's heads/heads. If you can see one obverse and one reverse, that's heads/tails.
  • What?

Not trying to be sarcastic or anything, I just have NO idea what this individual is speaking about.

Ok, I get that, but why do you think anyone would care?

If you're selling OBWs and the person wants a sealed roll of evey state and MM the only way they can do it is with a head-tail roll. That way they see the design on one side and MM on the other side.

If they get a head-head roll they don't know the design/date and if they get tail-tail they don't know the MM. Other than that they need to take the sellers word as to the date and MM and write it on the roll.

  • They are probably looking for toning, and want to know what side the coin will be tonedimage

Hey, I resemble that remark! image

As an OBW roll collector, I much prefer H/T rolls, as do most roll nuts.

    Regards,

    John

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

    Now that is funny!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

One side to see the state, one side to see the mintmark. Most people prefer their rolls heads on one side and tails on the other for this reason.

If that is what the buyer wants, I don't see a problem with it. People here always say "buy what you like" and that is what the buyer is trying to do.
Yes, there could be reasons for it. Those seem to be stated.
Some of the reasons may not seem valid since they are in the mint wrappers that state the state....to me, that is irrelevant. If the buyer wants H-T rolls, then that is up to them.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Yes, but which end does the heads side need to be on- the left or the right? image

It would be like owning a car that's missing the emblem. You know what the car is, but you still want the emblem there.

OK. Funny story. Shows how stupid I was.

I've been collecting golden dollar Sacagawea rolls, P & D since 2000. I normally buy from the Mint, one roll each mint mark. After a couple years I noticed that some of my Mint rolls were H/H or T/T (that's Heads-Heads on the end-roll coins or Tails-Tails for those who are keeping score). It seemed to me, "how the heck can I tell what year/MM these rolls are if they're H/H or T/T?". So I set out to make sure that I had a H/T or T/H example of each roll by Date & MM. Until one day I asked the same question of an EBay vendor that our OP has received. To wit: "What is the orientation of the coins on both ends of the roll?" image

Round about 2004 into my endeavor to collect H/T Sac rolls, one vendor said, "Why do you want to know if it's H/T or not?, Both the Date and MM are imprinted on the roll wrapper. You don't need to have an H/T roll to know what you have!"

Geesh, you could've knocked me over with a feather! After 5 years of collecting Sac rolls, I had never noticed the date/MM imprinted on the paper (very fine print and I bet not all of you knew that!). Go figure?

Anyway to this day, I only collect Sac rolls that are either H/T or T/H oriented as to the end-roll coins. And 'mrpotatoheadd' it doesn't matter whether it's left-right or right-left as long as I've got both a Head and a Tail on the ends of each roll!image

    Cheers!
