1952 Star-Cal decal issues

In PSA's population report, the 1952 Star-Cal Type 1's have 31 that have been slabbed -- ALL of them just have the 'Authentic' rating. Likewise, for Type 2's, 17 out of 18 have the 'Authentic' rating, with only ONE having a numeric grade (Vg 3). Does anyone know why virtually all of these issues only received the 'Authentic' rating? It can't be because of the absence of the envelope, since the report lists BOTH varieties, and all but that one have the 'Authentic' rating, regardless of the presence or absence of the envelope.

    Good Day,
Don't have an answer to your question, just more questions. I never realized PSA would slab these. I have several of the Movies Star ones, both sizes. Do the Sports ones come in both sizes? The smaller version is about 4" X 5.5" and the large ones are 5" X 7.5". None of the Movie Star ones have ever been graded, either size, know why?
    Thanks
    Neil

    Hi Steve,

I'm pretty sure it's because all, except the one that received a VG grade, were removed at one time from the red packaging envelope to which they were originally attached.

Some of the decals have actually been subbed without the red envelope. They are noted in the POP Report as "no envelope".

    PoppaJ -

Thanks for your reply. I figured it must have had something to do with the envelope, but since I have never seen one up close (yet - I just won a couple of these on eBay, but they haven't arrived yet), I wasn't sure what. From the photos, I can't tell whether the envelope is still 'attached'. Maybe this will become clear once I actually see one. Apparently just about all of them must have been opened (by necessity, to fully see the player?).

To answer the previous inquiry - yes, they do come in two sizes. Type 1 just has one player, and is larger than the Type 2's which have two players.
