Triple Crown or Averaging a Triple Double - which is more impressive?

This is almost an "apples to oranges" comparison. You can't really ask "which is harder to do because it is different sports that we are talking about. I do think that it is fair to ask "which is more impressive"? Which is more impressive - a triple crown in baseball or averaging a triple double in basketball?

I am not sure which is more impressive. There has only been one player to average a triple double in basketball, and that was Oscar Robertson when he did it in 1961-62. He played in a day when, I personally believe, that the competition was not ever remotely close to what it is now (or even in the 1980's and 1990's). There have been several players win the triple crown in baseball, but it has not been done since 1967 when Carl Yastrzemski did it. The last one to do it in the NL was Joe Medwick in 1937.

Also, as a second part of this discussion, which players are leading candidates to reach that milestone?

My choices are -

Triple Crown - Albert Pujols

Triple Double - Lebron James

I think Pujols might have a shot one of these years as does Alex Rodriguez. I think this is harder than the basketball feat. If Magic didn't do it I don't se LeBron pulling it off.
Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
  • wow! someone is drinking the Aroid Koolaid...that is the first time a heard of aroid and triple crown in the same sentence.....the guy will never come close in the average dept....he is an easy whiff, especially against the redsox......

Pujols may win the triple crown......would he have already own one if Bondz numbers are striken?
  • Averaging a triple double in basketball could be forced, if someone really good chose to distribute his play in that fashion.

Pujols, yes, A-Rod? No. A-Rod has only placed in the top 10 of batting twice in the past 10 years. He's not that patient of a hitter. However, if he keeps on juicing and gets Barry Bonds as a personal hitting coach, who knows?

No. In the part of his career that overlapped with Pujols's, Bonds only lead the league in HRs once, avg twice, and never in RBI.

In the years where Bonds lead in something, there were at least 4 other guys between Bonds and Pujols on the list.

The closest Pujols has come to the Triple Crown was in 2006, when he was 3rd in batting, 2nd in HRs, and 2nd in RBI.
