Any Pro Set collectors/experts? 1990 Pro Set Series 1 8-box break

I recently purchased an 8 box lot of 1990 Pro Set hoping to pull a Lombardi Hologram or (in an equally slim chance) a Fred Marion error. The first box I opened appeared to be a late printing run because the 19-22 cards all had their draft banners. Plus the Art Shell card had a small HOF and the 11/25 birthdate. But what was really strange is that the Mike Ditka card was the large HOF version. According to the Pro Set book, this was one of the first corrections made (and is one of the rarest Pro Set errors from my understanding). Very strange.
The other 7 boxes all had corrected Ditkas and Shells. All 8 had corrected Marions. No Lombardi Hologram. And a mixture of error and corrected versions.
I haven't had a chance yet to sort through the rest for any wrong or blank backs or miscuts, that'll be another couple of hours of fun later this week. I have 4 more 1990 series 1 and 2 series 2 boxes on the way and I'll also be opening 180 packs of 1991 Pro Set Series 1 this weekend, hopefully I'll snag a few Jim Kelly errors!

Good Luck with the Marion !
Edit to add:
I noticed that a couple of the Lombardi Trophy cards sold for less than $35 each recently on Ebay. Hmm. I might need to get one...

<< <i>Isn't that the "rare" Jeff George version? The only on I ever pulled was the one with him in a Colts uni.

It's funny about the Jeff George card. One box had two of them in it. I had never pulled one before and I have been opening tons of this since it was new.
As far as Lombardis go, I'm still set on pulling one from a pack instead of buying one. This is probably my all-time favorite non-baseball product to open because there is almost no rhyme or reason to it's assortment - as proven by my break today. You never know what mix of variations are going to come out of a box. However, I do believe that the Fred Marion was only in very early printings and since this was a 'hot product' at the time, I'm willing to bet that all of that wax has been broken (or is sitting in collections).

I think you're referring to the series II draft pick cards. The OP ripped Series I boxes.

Oh yeah, all the draft pick cards were in Series 2. Still, I never pulled one of the George SPs.
For some reason, I really liked the first 20 something cards, with the gold borders.
If you wrote to Pro Set back in those days and asked, they would send you a free copy of the #1 Barry Sanders card and a promo Brett Hull hockey card. I must have wrote a whole bunch of times, because I still have about 10 of those Sanders cards.
I think it was "limit one per person", so being the 14 year old ingrate that I was, I sent in requests with my name, my dad's name, my mom's name, the cat's name, the dog's name, and a few names I made up.

Yeah, I remember getting one of those folders with the Sanders and Hull cards. I really wish there were current sets that used the "living set" idea that Pro Set had where they made running changes as trades happened, errors were discovered, late signings, death banners and retirements etc. A really interesting concept.
