For 1989fleerbillyripkencollector

I found this magazine with the Billy Ripken card on the cover and I just wanted to make sure you knew about it (you probably did). I found it while going through some boxes. It has a list of all or most of the errors and varaitions from 1989. Also is an ad selling the Ripken........

  • Yep. I have that one. One of the 1st ones I found. Thanks for thinking of me though. That saw cut pictured has me kinda puzzled. I have read of wider cuts and I've seen only one (and that one is suspect as it's the only cut card of that version I've sever seen) and that one on the cover. Although that one has one characteristic that differs from all the others. So maybe it was made by Beckett. ? So until I see one on a rack...

Called Forman years back too. Without looking at my notes, I remember talking to his wife who was real nice. Wish I kept better notes in the beginning. Saw his collection of FF he sold, and that's where I saw the White Box for the 1st time. I think Foreman has since passed away. If so, RIP.

I mean, I guess I could gogle it, but what is the story behind that card? Did Ripken know the word was on there? What is eBay's policy on how to advertise that card? "Rick" face is the closest you can get? I saw one guy advertise it as "Ripken and a very naughty word" or something absurd like that...

BTW--Mike Greenwell cards were huge I think in the summer of '88--cards were selling for like 30 a pop, not to mention Ellis Burks.

Thanks for that link. Interesting stuff. I still can't buy his "what me?" explanation though...

Is there any value to a 36 card cello pack that has the saw cut Ripken on top?

I'm unaware of what's allowed. I've used/seen F**K Face. I've never had a problem. I think according to ebay's TOS, pics of the FF knob could land it in the mature audiences catagory. My collecting interests walk a fine line. Once a kid asked for my opinion, to be used for a paper she was writing for school on censorship. Too lax or too strict. To sum up my response, lax. But thankfully, I can display my collection without problems.
