2nd Chance?

Let me first say that I respect and love this hobby as much as so many people on this board. I am grateful and happy other people like myself exist and hope to gain your friendship/respect through this board, albeit I'm off to a rocky start.

I sometimes feel ridiculed that I still love baseball cards but am thankful that folks like you sympathize with my addiction image One of my greatest birthday memories occurred this year (my 30th) when my oldest sister--who doesn't understand my baseball card addiction,--wrapped a shoebox with wrapping paper etc. in which a '63 NM Clemente Fleer was found inside. Of course I couldn't be happier, loved that card so much more than a nice pair of shoes...

While some aspects of the hobby have changed since the 80s and early 90s--when I was in full-throttle--the essentials are the same--a love for collecting and for the game itself (in my case baseball--but also hockey). I have a collector's mindset much more than a seller who is trying to flip cards for a profit. My '57 baseball set (90% complete), Clementes, and so forth have been and always will be, more meaningful than a "price" set on eBay or price guide.

Unfortunately I was laid off in Feb. and entered the dark world of "selling" rather than just collecting, due to the extra time on my hands. This has somewhat changed my perspective on buying/selling cards. It may be (I have an interview next week) that I will never be a "seller" in which I can go back to slamming "guys like me" for destroying the hobby.

I totally get the attitude "screw this guy" but I guess it depends on your perspective. I would guess most antique car salesman also LOVE that hobby but also make $. I think their profits don't negate their personal appreciation for vintage cars....

For the 1st time in my life, I was a seller at a show in Raleigh NC. I was extremely hateful toward the sellers who tried to "flip" my cards. I eventually got over this grudge, kind of. One seller, who also loved b-ball cards ('53 Bowman color) got a good deal from me. The other, when asked, displayed no interest in the cards but was purely in the business to make $... In short, I am like the first guy.

I am extremely sensitive when people take a shot at my morality or my eBay record. I will come back swinging and oftentimes get personal b/c I do not make a living by cheating other people--so people who accuse me of such will get a swift "smack in the mouth".

That said, I AM new to certain aspects of the hobby (example: TTM) and do not always understand the ramifications of my statements. When I proposed the possibility of making $ thru TTM I did not realize the problem with that. Anyway, Thanks for listening!

As if I haven't said enough...I was angry and perhaps overly-defensive when one member of this board (who really isn't a bad guy) decided to "warn" others about me and that did contribute to my defensive/over-the-top attitude...

I used to love hot rod chevys more than anything else in the world. When I started buying and selling them, they became numbers and inventory, and I lost all love for them.

As long as you remember that a card is in the same condition when you're buying and when you're selling, and you treat people the same as you would love to be treated, then everything's good.

    Good luck with your sales

You started selling on eBay 3 years ago and have been an eBay member for 8 years.

You also admit that you are a scumbag seller in this same paragraph. Please check eBay for a nice shovel because you are just digging yourself deeper.

    To LSU Tiger---

Although I am not exactly feeling "warm and fuzzy" about your comments about me, at least your are not hiding your opinion and are manning up to tell me exactly how you feel. I have probably stepped out of line enough times to deserve your negative thoughts. Sometimes I have had a beer too many and stepped out of line.

I am touchy when people attack my eBay record because I have worked hard to establish honesty and respect in that community. Again, you can check my feedback closely and it will show you that the last 8 years (especially the last 5/6) I was primarily a buyer/collector of baseball cards. The last 2/3 years of my eBay record will reveal some selling, mostly of single commons '50s cards--some of which were sent in PWE's due to my. 45 cent shipping rate. I also am sensitive when people accuse me of not being a "true collector" b/c there is nothing further than the truth.

Again, maybe I have held a view or two that you find unappetizing, but to brand me as a seller who cheats their customers, sells their "ex-husbands" cards, misrepresents conditions of cards, etc.... is unfair. There are plenty of those dudes like that which deserve scorn/ridicule but I am not that guy...

Can we agree to NOT use phrases like WARM AND FUZZY and TOUCHY?

Other than that, everything's just PEACHY!

When is a troll not a troll ?

The answer---- Only when they don't like the name.

Are you related to Axtell ? Are you by chance , an abnormal Pujols or McGwire fan.

Your arguments and topics , speak or reek , of these others that have come before you.

I can tell your angry about something , but you are going to have a very difficult time , garnering much support here .

Good luck on your mission--- Sonny

I'm just the opposite. I get a little ebay when people attack my touchy.

I am interested in what you think about Shakespeare. Any chance these authors were the real "Shakespeare"?? I'm not trying to be controversial--just want to know your opinion on the subject. Either way, "Shakespeare" is great.

Francis Bacon, Christopher Marlowe, and Edward de Vere?

Pink Floyd was awesome. I love the theatrics of their shows--Huge Pigs flying around, etc.

I do think their music was never quite as brilliant once Roger Waters left the band after the Wall (?). Then again he was sort of was sort of a control freak and needed to be sorted out.

I also enjoyed watching/listening to a laser show w/their music at an Imax theatre after eating a pizza (with mushrooms).
