Lady Sellers & Skepticism?

Are you more skeptical when buying from women sellers? Like if a seller ID is Becky352 who claims a card is Mint are you like "Yeah right" whereas if the same condition claim was made by Card Guy 54 you would be less skeptical? Would it be wrong/sexist to treat women sellers differently in terms of what you bid?

If her name is Stephanie, I generally walk away.
  • Are you thinking of changing your eBay id? I'm a littly skeptical, especially considering you mentioned on another thread about looking for other's 'mistakes' on eBay for a good deal...

Are you asking so you can play whatever role that will bring you the highest sales?

Sorry, after I read you want to get TTM's just to flip them for profit....

Hmm. Wonder why many athletes dont sign TTM.

$5 says you wont mention in your TTM request that your requesting the sig so you can sell it. You'll say "I'm a fan blah blah".

To answer your question- I judge people on their presentation. Spelling, pictures, accuracy of info given etc. Not their sex.

In my never ending quest to find creative ways to make a bit of $ selling cards, I have decided to try and send some cards TTM (through the mail) to HOF baseball players and new prospects.

I was thinking of sending them these blank signature cards: Link

Have any of you sellers found success reselling this type of card after getting them signed? Thanks for your input.

The reason I bring this up is that there is seller called something like ButterflyLadyxoxo and I can't decide whether or not to bid on one of her items. I know in the back of my mind it is wrong to discriminate against women baseball card sellers but my practical self is struggling to go through with it.

Not wrong at all. Were you thinking of low-balling the minority sellers as well?

Why would it even matter, especially since most, if not all, of the complaints about sellers that misrepresent or overgrade their cards are guys? At least I've never read a post anywhere about a female seller that I can recall.

I'm sure Felicia (IJustLoveCards) and Donna Bleam (slpzwtheboss) don't share your views at all.

You better hope that Carolj doesn't either image

I never realized a baseball card forum would be filled with so many nuns! If you must attack by all means at least go after my ideas please enough with the dirt bag troll cheap shots...Anyway, I am asking a very simple question: do you buy differently from a woman vs. a man seller? If a seller's ID was "Rainbow Girl" vs. "Mint Guy" and all things else were equal (feedback, scans, etc.)--would sales figures differ?

It's "ideas" such as yours that led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act, Fair Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Housing Act, et cetera.

On the other hand, it's your money and you can spend it with whomever you wish.

The ebayID is the last of my concerns. The overall appearance of the auction combined with the feedback left by others are the criteria I use to determine if I will bid. An ID can be whatever the seller chooses it to be and does not necessarily describe the seller...Becky352 could be a male and Mint Guy could deal primarily in good to fair cards. It seems like you are trying to judge a book by its cover instead of its contents.

Address the issue name-calling/misrepresenting me takes no original thought, starting to sift out the real "trolls" (i.e. bullies/liars/cheap-shot artists). Too much group think!

Why are you struggling? Women cant wrap a package? Can't put cardboard in a case? Majority are scammers? I don't get it.

My wife keeps our house clean and organized. I'm sure she'd take better care of cards than alot of men do, if she cared for them.

Actually ButterflyLady sounds like she's the boss in a mafia backed counterfeit ring. I'd run ! image

    Hi Bill,

you're certainly right about that! I hope if Felicia read my post that she knows that I meant well image

I was trying to convey the message that there are many women that deserve as much, if not more, respect than the men.

I didn't know that she isn't a seller. Thanks for pointing that out!

Well, I never really had a chance when my first introduction to this board was by a disgruntled member who loses every argument with me and then huffs and puffs when facts don't match up--resorts to name calling and then becomes offended when I defend myself.

I am not interested in merely posting "Nice PSA 9, Bill" but enjoy unconventional topics. Pack searching, sexism in the industry, ethics of TTM/resale, etc., creative ways to make $ on Ebay, in short some controversial ideas and practices that many people think about and maybe even do. I think people need to fess up and be more honest with themselves, and each other. I could change my ID tomorrow and take only popular stances--it would be so easy, and so safe. I could rip any guy whose opinion is not mainstream and get a bunch of high fives from the forum.

For example, on the sexism issue, and yes it's still a live topic, so perhaps I will be proven wrong. Would anybody venture to admit? "Yeah man, I hate to say it but I do bid lower if it's a woman seller. Maybe I shouldn't, but I do...." I know that is uncomfortable to admit, maybe even wrong and biased. But it's real, and that would be refreshing to hear someone say so. The "easy" answer is calling me a dirt bag, etc. Makes you feel good inside, and gets you warm feedback from the group. But what do you REALLY think? And more important, how do you REALLY act? Do you REALLY bid just as high on a woman seller?

In short, AUTHENTIC discussion would be awesome (and that doesn't mean I expect you to agree with everything I say). Isn't that what the "A" in PSA stands for (well not exactly--but close...)???

    Bill Ripken Collector.....

I want to know how, where, cost of getting a FF card signed by William Ripken?

I saw your avatar and it spiked an interest for my personal collection.

I pulled a FF face Ripken card from a cello pack when I was 11 years old and I was on top of the world....Ahh the memories.

    Information is much appreciated.

I'm unsure of the cost. My buddy blew up a card and was in town where he was doing a signing and got it for me.

Their Ripkenbaseball site might have some insight. I have heard he signs TTM. Though, for some unknown reason I have yet to do it. If you want his home address, lmk and I'll get it to you when I get home this evening.

Bill Ripken collector is your name "Donovan", i just read a cnbc article about an interview with Bill Ripken confessing the truth behind the F Face bat and they mentioned BillRipken.com

Please do PM me with TTM information, I think it'd be great to send Bill Ripken a short letter about my first rebelious experience of owning a forbidden item haha.
I'd PSA/DNA slab that card if I were to get it signed.

    Uh yeah...

Sorry but I treat every reputable Seller the same, regardless of gender, race, religion, etc.

Larry Sellers once stole my car and left it stranded after crashing it. He stole my radio, my briefcase...and more importantly my Creedence.

His father wrote a few episodes of a tv show and was confined to an iron lung when I went to his house to confront his son about my car.

I still regret what my friend did to his neighbor's car, however now I know what happens when you find a stranger in the alps.

I think I would be more apt to purchase from a female seller. They tend not to lie, cheat, decieve as much as men. They also tend to be more organized, polite & Probably take better care with shipping also :-)
    Its all relative

I've bought from many women and all have been great transactions.

Just like the men I have bought from they answered all questions asked. Packaged the product as well as men. Back when I actually used eBay I had also helped a couple women out that had something listed that they weren't sure what the cards were (I told them year/set etc) and one even wanted to pay me in cards for the help (I said thanks but that it wasn't necessary).

One side note to a transaction on a near complete box of 1985 Donruss (33 out of 36 packs) it was clear she was not a card seller as her terminology and description made it unclear if she was selling the packs in one lot or as single packs but she answered my emails and I purchased the product. For some reason upon getting her address I looked her name up on Google and came up with

The findings of the complaint investigation found that:

(name removed) left 7 day care children outside unsupervised.

(name removed) The gate to her 4 ½-foot deep pool was unlocked allowing a 21-month-old child to climb the ladder and subsequently fall into the pool.

(name removed) exceeded her licensed capacity of 12 children by having 13 children in care.

The Summary Suspension Order required (name removed) to not operate a Group Day Care Home (address removed) or at any other address or location as of 6 p.m. on June (date removed). Children are not to be received for care after that date or time. The order also requires (name removed) to inform all of the parents or guardians of children in care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.

(name removed) has signed a consent order and stipulation accepting the summary suspension and revocation.

(name removed) has held a license to operate a Group Day Care Home since July 17, 1996. The license was for 12 unrelated children

Do you REALLY bid just as high on a woman seller?

    YES.

I could care less if the seller was male or female, pink, green, brown, purple, black or white.

I do not care what religion, if any, the seller belongs to.

I do not care if the seller is straight, gay, bi... I think you get the picture.

But here's a question for you, Pat (Mintacular): How would you bid (because you obviously bid lower on "suspected women sellers"),
if you came across a card you wanted being sold by "pats-cards"?

The bottom line...when buying raw cards buy from someone who is reputable with a good track record. Or buy raw cards in person and make the purchase if the card meets your standards...Last resort and risky... buy raw cards online from most ebayers that you don't know only if you can a large enough scan of both sides and hope there are no hidden flaws that don't show in the scans.

You could also buy raw cards from many of our great members here who have great track records.

Making a thread called "Lady Sellers & Skepticism? " is totally uncalled for.
  • I have bought many women and after inspecting and enjoying their package. I can say truthfully I would buy again. I only buy women, some even offer it free and shipping is free too. I only buy women. Never MEN!

edited : opps guess I got the wrong forum!
    image

But I will never buy or sell to a person who leaves feedback: like this:
Overstated Condition of Card, did not respond to my email for refund or discount
OK, kind of a sarcastic attitude
Card was not mint as advertised, more like near-mint, one bent corner

and then claims to 100% positive feedback ( when they really DON'T) , I will always check tollhaus.org from now on till the day I die. JMHO
