My 5 oz silver bar "mini hoard"

Just got my latest shipment in from APMEX. Heres what the current "hoard" looks like:

Do you guys prefer the NWT or the Silvertowne bars in this size?

This is 465 ounces of pure silver (93 bars total)

A neat little "wall" of silver bricks (all Silvertowne bars)

So which design do you guys prefer?

Cool hoard man. I too like the 5oz size very much although the only ones I have are Johnson Matthey. I'm not too big a fan of either the NWT or ST design but if I had to pick one of them I'd pick the NWT. The cartoon on the ST bars turns me off for some reason.

JM and Engelhard struck fivers are the bomb, no doubt! But im not much into paying spot + $2.50-$3.00 on 5 oz bars. I aquired all the bars you see here at spot + $1.25, and spot + .99. Its a more economical way to stockpile the stuff.

    Niiiiiiiice!

I like the design on the NWT bars better, but the pseudo-premium name of the silver towne better.

Interesting how so many collectors seem drawn to the 5 ounce weight.

    Great spread of 5'ers!! .......

I noticed by Apmex's pixs ..... and now confirmed by your pixs....

SilverTowne has stopped stamping ser.#s on their 5 oz. bars and they are not in plastic!

Guess I would have to go with the NWTMs.

    [butttttt I like them all!!]

Nice hoard.... there are aspects of each I like and dislike,
if I have to chose I would say NWT. Also, I do not like the
plastic wrappers on my bars, I enjoy the cold steel on my skin.

I like my bars in the buff as well. However, I cant seem to force myself to unwrap those NWT bars for fear of slight resale losses.image

    Edited to add:

"SilverTowne has stopped stamping ser.#s on their 5 oz. bars and they are not in plastic!"

Is the reason for this the unprecedented demand, and therefore less time to stamp SN's?

I have a 10 oz Silver Towne bar without the serial number.

I just got a email from apmex saying shipped today. It was just a small order of 10 bars. Must of been real low on Apmex priority list of shipments from that sale. image

Apmex 1 kilo bar. Got it for $444.30 which equals $13.81 per ounce and that was about a buck over spot when I pulled the trigger earlier today. They are currently at $13.75 per ounce with the spot right now at $12.77. It's cheaper than any other bar they have up for sale...even the 100oz and 1000+oz bars.

Ok, I saw those. I really wish they had a photo of them. Any idea if they are poured or struck? What design they are using?

The description says they are stackers so I'm sure the look identical to the 100oz and 10oz stackers. I'll post a pic when it arrives.

Maybe this should be a thread in itself. How do you guys store your bars? Do you care if they tarnish?

That is a nice little hoard you got there. I really woulkd like to buy a 100oz J&M bar just for the primordial desire of owning a hunk of shiny metal,.... which, conspiracy theories and theorists aside,is the main thing that drives most gold bugs,IMHO. Although, since you just bought all that silver Geko, at a MINIMUM, you just created a short term top in the silver market image

Here ya go Gecko. Apmex just uploaded the image of their 1 Kilo stacker bars. Looks like it's stamped on both sides, I like it very much. I really dig how they list the weight in ounces and as a kilo image

The kilos are way cool, but theres just something about the lack of divisibility on those. I need to make my intentions clear first of all. Im stockpiling silver and gold right now in anticipation of a total fiat monetary collapse, or at the very least, MAJOR reform of our current system. All this bailout money being thrown about has a cost, and I believe that "cost" to be rampant inflation followed by global meltdown of how other countries perceive our debt (which will further diminish the dollar's value). At some point, "paper" that can be made at will, will no longer be an accepted form of payment for goods and services, unless that "paper" is backed by something more tangible than just "full faith in our government" (which im running quite short on at the moment). So if my intentions are to have hard, tangible assets with which to conduct business in a SHTF scenario, then I think it would be appropriate to have smaller sized pieces for trade. Kilo size and up will be the stuff large "banks" will have in the future, much like the former $100,000 bills. In fact, I tend to think that the 10 oz is almost too large. Couple my thoughts/intentions with my overwhelming desire for uniformity (think Monk) and maybe I had better stick to stocking up on the 5's for now.

Your reasoning is one of the several reasons I am in silver. For this reason I have a good quantity of 1oz rounds and 1oz bars. I think the 1oz'ers will be better for every day bartering than the 5oz'ers. I do have a small supply of 5'ers and 10'ers though for those larger transactions. The Kilo is more for long term hold than for SHTF currency.

I also like the reason listed for small sized bars although I doubt and hope it never happens. For some reason that APMEX bar doesn't really call out to me but its just bullion I guess and for that small premium, Can't beat it.

Here are my 5 oz bars, No where near as many as Phil has however. I recently sold some off to purchase some larger bars that carry less of a premium.

Love the "wall" of silver bricks. Reminds me of when I was a kid and built forts out of everything. Nice start to a small fort there!

I liked the SilverTowne better until I saw the same miner and donkey on both sides. The NWT looks more professional.
