  • I've seen those before, even ones which use my real name. The key is to make sure you use Firefox and open a fully new window and manually go to the website...never through a link. You will learn if there is a problem once you've logged in.

Never go to PayPal through a web link login directly each and every time, this will greatly reduce your chances of being scammed

I just received this one, using my real name. Of course, I logged into my account (not through the link) and there was nothing to resolve. This is the second time in a few months I have received this one.

    Anyone else get this email?

Anyone know how the phisher can get real names (other than if I had a prior transaction with them or they knew me)?

    I notified PayPal.

  • I've received emails to a yahoo account that matches my ebay account, though that is not the email address I used to register with ebay. My thoughts were that the scammer sends emails to ebay and paypal ID's with "@yahoo.com" added as an email extension, in order to add some semblence of an official ebay or paypal notice to their scams. They may even check to see if the Yahoo account includes identifying information, in order to include that in a fraudulent email as well. Perhaps this scam may even be expanded to include "@hotmail.com", "@msn.com" etcetera, since people often use similar online ID's, and maybe that is how a scammer was able to include one poster's real name.

In any case, no such scam will be effective if you simply log into your ebay or paypal account directly and ignore any links supplied in the email.

I'm on so many scammer mailing lists that I often the 2 to 5 copies of each scam within seconds or minutes of each other (including this one). --Jerry
