OT: Some help from computer experts

I've managed for the first time ever, to post something in Greek in this thread at the Testing Forum. Why can I not post it anywhere else in these Message Boards?

If I copy and paste it, this is what I get:

Χριστὸς Ἀνέστη ἐκ νεκρῶν
θανάτῳ θάνατον πατήσας
καὶ τοῖς ἐν τοῖς μνήμασι
ζωὴν χαρισάμενος.

If I write it from scratch, this is what I get:

Χριστος Ανεστη εκ νεκρων
θανατω θανατον πατησας
και τοις εν της μνημασι
ζωην χαρισαμενος.

The testing forum post was a copy, I cannot use Greek polytonic from this laptop (if you could see the two texts as I can now before posting them, you'd have noticed that the first post is written in polytonic, and the second is without tones.

    The fact remains though, that if I try to post anything in Greek in my profile, a huge mathematic sequence shows up, a series of & # and numbers from 900-999 separated between them by ; and the system tells me that my text is too long.

    Something like this:

    &%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;
    &%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;
    &%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954vv&%935;&%951;&%961;&%954&%935;&%951;&%961;
    &%954

    ..... and it goes on and on.I've cheated now and replaced &# with &% to give you the idea.

    Probably just a problem with how the text is stored or converted for the database. The long mess with all the &'s is the html unicode conversion for those characters

    Some browsers may interpret the "&#" codes differently.

    Dmitri, I agree with the above observation by spoon. Here are some factors that can cause the effect you have noted, any one of which can prevent the text from showing up as intended, and all of which must be correct for another person to view Greek text as you intend.
      The computer on which it is to be viewed must have the same font installed, unless you use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS is a feature that can be set in HTML), but even then an alternate acceptable font (specified by your HTML code) must be loaded on the individual's computer.The forum software must support the font your are using - some do, some do not, some do under certain circumstances.The viewer's browser must also support the font you are using - typically if their computer has the font loaded, there is a good chance their browser will support it.
    Now from what you have described it appears this forum supports the font and font subset, but the preview feature may not. In order to ensure your text is likely to be readable as intended on as many computers (and with as many browsers) as possible, I recommend using the simplest Greek font available to you, for example the font available in MS Word through the Basic Greek font subset as shown in the provided image capture, and maybe you can live with the Preview function not showing up correctly.

    I hope this helps.

    I kind of suspected that each number along with the symbols corresponded to a different letter, but I left it to Eric whom I knew that he would find it straight away.image I can't begin to think what they do with Chinese. Steve your help is invaluable too, because this was the first time in 6 years I've ever been able to post a Greek word here and it was done from a Mac. Your illustrated guide for Word, will help me adjust regular PCs that I tend to use more often. image

    Thank you guys.
