1983 Topps bb box

Wanting to share my experience recently and ask for your experiences.

I bought a wax box that had been sealed with cellophane. I got a Boggs and Gwynn RC. No Sandberg. Unfortunately, both of these cards were the first cards in the pack and had huge wax stains on the fronts of the card from the wrapper. Just my luck.

Have others had similar experiences with either this year or other years where the the rookies they were trying to go for were either wax stained or gum stained?

  • So you bought a cello("wrapped in cellophane") box and the cards had wax stains on them? Lastly, 9's and 10's? Did you get them graded or are you talking about Near Mint to Mint? If you are worried about a resealed box, just buy from a reputable dealer. Around here it's Steve at Baseball Card Exchange.

To clarify, it was a box of 36 wax packs. The box was wrapped in cellophane (I know that's not probably original wrapping...it was brittle though). I haven't gotten them graded. Ignore the PSA 10s and 9s comment. I was going somewhere else in my post and never got back to editing. I will go and edit now.

Born and bred. Bleed Husker red.
  • 1983 Topps wax boxes were not wrapped by the manufacturer. A lot of unopened dealers shrinkwrap boxes. The fact that the 2 rookies were first or last in the pack was just bad luck. Since the wax was on the front, you should be able to easily remove it with the pantyhose trick.

I'd pay a dollar to see that.

  • For those who are a little more prudish (HA!) Try the used dryer sheet trick (non smelly) instead.

I have a silk cloth that has done well with taking wax off the front of cards in the past. I think it was originally intended to clean computer screens, but it works well.

Moved to Minnesota for a job. Born and raised in NE for the first 24 years of my life with my family still residing there. Once a Husker, always a Husker.

How did you feel when Peterson and Callahan took control ? A big shift of philosophy from the Tom Osborne era for sure.

    I respect that.

My daughters friendboy (noy boyfriend) is from Alabama and of course a Bama fan. When I first met him we were at a get together for the LSU/Bama game last year. He walked in and said "roll Tide". I have respected him ever since for sticking up for his team in a room full of LSU fans.

It was a tough time to live through. I was actually excited when Cally brought his version of the West Coast Offense. I also loved the smash mouth football of the Osborne days. But, it wasn't an offense suitable to make a comeback if down in a game. So I like the WCO attack with more passing. I still attended just as many games while the team was down as I do when the team is up. I've been spoiled...I've never been to a Husker game that they've lost.

    Hey Minnesotahusker,

By chance are you from the Austin/Rochester area? I saw a photo of you and your family in a thread and you looked familiar? I'm from Austin.

Here is an example of the pantyhose trick. It works like a champ if you take your time and are carefull. Look at the white border and you can see how the wax came right off.
