***Viking ships on coins?***

I'm so new to this forum I cannot even upload my icon. Hopefully some of you are interested in Viking ships on coins. I'm always looking for more and have some duplicates I'd like to trade. Please let me know if you or someone on CU have the same interest. Thanks.

Welcome Darksider newbie, and join in our collective morning for the loss of newbiecollector, who was no newbie, but from all accounts was a very fine gentleman. Peace, comfort and condolences to his family.
Pardon us, we are mourning a dear friend that loved ships on coins that was from Norway.
You just missed icon upload day, you will have to wait until next month on the 15th.
At the same time, welcome, NCViking!
I'll put in my 2 cents worth with what I consider to be my favorite Viking ship coin.................... it's one from circulation that I've managed to find a few copies of, but none in as good a shape and detail as I'd like....... it's the wartime zinc-composition Netherlands 25 cent KM #174 from 1941-1943. There's just something "primitive" in its design that looks as if it could have come straight from the time of the Vikings - - a VERY striking, neat coin!!
Here's a link to a very poor picture of one I found on-line............. anyone have a better image? :

Do a search with his username and "viking", there are still some old threads with pics. Here's a link to one of his posts. BTW, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you stole his icon until next month

<< <i>I collect sailing ship coins of all types and know that there are some nifty looking Viking coins out there but I don't have too many of those. >>
Shep, technically speaking, all ships sail, or they sink.

Well I can't argue with that!!!!

Those are beautiful! The Isle of Man really worships the Vikings through their coinage. The NGC holders really show off the coins.
Would the 2001 Canada Gold Maple Leaf with the Viking Privy Mark qualify?
JCoin
Yes, the 2001 gold Maple Leaf coin with the Viking ship privy mark IS a candidate but I've only 'toyed' with the idea. It's like collecting
coins with minor errors....I like to see things without a scope and the Canadian piece is so small I'd have to strain my old eyes.
So far, I've managed to find acceptable pieces from Alderney(2), Belarus, Benin, Canada, Cook Islands(2), Denmark((2), Estonia(2), Gibraltar(5), Iceland(2), Isle of Man(27+), Laos(1), Marshall Islands(2), Netherlands(1), North Korea (1)?, Norway((2), Sarawi(2), Solomon Islands(1), Ukraine(1), USA(2), and Zambia(2).
