1951 Red Back Wax Pack Question.

Has anyone ever opened a Psa graded wax pack before and had the 2 cards graded. I have an unopened PSA 8 1951 Red Back wax pack with Early Wynn on top that I was thinking of opening and getting graded. Does anyone know what the odds of it being a PSA 9 would be. Or is it worth more still sealed in the unopened wax pack?

  • Is it worth opening and getting cards graded???

  • Unsure of the odds, but I'd say slim.

But I opened a 2 card 1954 Bowman football pack awhile back. Pack was graded a GAI 8 or 7. Cards were a 6 at best.
Opened a few Topps Mexican packs. Same results. Back card has wax stain and top card had corner issues. I think my Mexican packs were dipped in wax. I think that's common for that issue though.

With less than 20% of the ones graded by PSA being 9s, coupled with the fact that the other card might just be a common ....
    I'd say DO NOT OPEN!

Of course, it would be great if that other card just happens to be card #1 Yogi Berra!

  • There was a large find of unopened red back wax in the 80's. Looking at what's been graded now should give you a good idea of the percentage as said above.

most of the cards in the redback packs are lower grade. these were all part of the find mentioned in an earlier post
