Someone has to win games in that pathetic divison!

  • Wow! I'll take winning in a pathetic division. I would think a Phillies fan would show support for us since ex Mariners grace your roster.

Its been since the beginning of the football season since Seattle fan could talk smack....you must have some big time sores from being under the bed for so long!

Why would they keep Ibanez? Unless you think he's worth $10 million a year?

7 out of 8 games on the road.

    No Ichiro.

    .750 ball

    So far, so good.

Ichiro is a clubhouse cancer. Once he's back in the line up, you'll drop in the standings like a 10lb sack of wet cement.

Have the M's won agin with Ichiro? except some Asian fan support? I think not.

    For Brian

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the clubhouse chemistry issues the Seattle Mariners endured last year may have been due to the preferential treatment that Ichiro receives.

J.J. Putz, Carlos Silva, and Adrian Beltre have all hinted that Ichiro was at the center of it all.

Some of the more telling quotes quotes which seem to be about Ichiro include:

"Some Guys Just Get Special Treatment"
Apparently Suzuki stays in different hotels during road trips.

"Take a walk if you need it. If you can run ... just little things like that"
Ichiro managed a whole 51 walks in 700+ Plate Appearances last year.

In his review of the M’s season, Geoff Baker of the SEATTLE TIMES reveals just how sour things got in the Seattle clubhouse:

And it was a clubhouse in need of some direction, given the problems engulfing it as the season came undone. When it came to Ichiro, who got off to a typically slow start in April and part of May, the internal turmoil nearly hit its boiling point.

“I just can’t believe the number of guys who really dislike him,” said one clubhouse insider. “It got to a point early on when I thought they were going to get together and go after him.”

Well, it’s not like anybody actually said they would go after Ichiro - right?

The coaching staff and then-manager John McLaren intervened when one player was overheard talking — in reference to Ichiro — about wanting to “knock him out.” A team meeting was called to clear the air.

Hmmm. The guy must have been from Cleveland. But it’s not like Ichiro was the target of his teammates’ ire before - right?

It was a repeat of May 2007, when Mike Hargrove was in charge and a team meeting had to be called during a series at Tampa Bay because of clubhouse bickering over Ichiro being a “selfish” player.

Treetop, your anger is misguided. This club has not had a true leader since Jay Buhner retired.

Ichiro is not a leader; just a great baseball player. Lack of leadership has been a much bigger issue.

BTW, because a now default newpaper claims players "hinted" about this does not make it real, right? Or maybe it does, in your mind?

Griffey Jr. hits 400th homer as Mariner, Ichiro gets slam and it's against the Angels of Orange County....Not Los Angeles image

I hope Griff has a great year!!!!!!! I'm pulling for him.

    M's:

Middle relief - Semi-Bad, but not HORRID.

Closing - Middle of the road (99% fastballs - yikes).

    Dave

PS I actually feel very bad for the Angels. I can't imagine what they are going through right now.

  • I know they're lame on offense but the pitching has been pretty good. Third shutout of the year with Felix winning again. Ichiro's homer in the first holds up.
