Multiply the price of silver X .72 to get the approx melt value for 90% silver coin. Then toss in up to a 10% premium which is typically what the selling dealers are asking (10% premium to melt is usually the "ask" value on CDN).
Some dealers try to buy at .65 to .69 to leave themselves more room. 8.9X face would be today's melt value which is around 9.8X face with selling premium added. If you can get it at melt, that's great. When silver was higher a few weeks ago I paid 10.9X face for about 25 lbs of fresh 90% silver coins. They were about half mercs and walkers, 2 full sets of Franklins, and just generally a big bunch of dirty looking silver coins. The first merc dime I picked up was a nice VF 1931. A number of XF/AU walkers and mercs. The color of the coins reminded me of typical hoards of silver from the late 1960's to early 1970's.
We can sell a solid $1000 bag, which melts at about $8830 using $12.35 silver, wholesale to another dealer here in town at no shipping cost, for about $10,190. Retail would naturally be more. TD

At a show in Grand Rapids Mich a couple weeks ago, the dealers had 9.5 X face for 90% and 3.1 times face for 40% silver posted as their buying price. One dealer was paying 9.9 times face for 90% and he was the only dealer I saw do any buying. He bought a lot while I was there.
