    RIP Young Man
Angels' Adenhart Dies in Car AccidentAOL

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 9) - Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart died Thursday in a hit-and-run car crash after a game, a hospital official said.

Adenhart, 22, died after undergoing surgery, University of California, Irvine Medical Center spokesman John Murray said.
Adenhart was one of three people killed in the crash early Thursday after pitching in a loss against the Oakland Athletics.
The driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and hit two cars, including one carrying Adenhart.
Police Lt. Craig Brower said the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run. Details of the accident were first reported by TMZ.com.
A fourth passenger was at the same hospital in critical condition.
Adenhart was the Angels' No. 3 starter, making his season debut Wednesday night. The right-hander earned a spot in the starting rotation on an injury-plagued Angels staff by impressing manager Mike Scioscia late in spring training.
He was born in Silver Springs, Md.

    RIP YOUNG MAN.

    Wow... that terrible.

  • << <i>Has anybody heard confirmation that the other two that died in the vehicle were not his teammates? >>

The Angels, in a statement, said the female driver and another male passenger were dead in the Mitsubishi when police and firefighters arrived. The team said no other members of the organization were involved in the crash.

    That answers that.

I'm just speechless. We were driving by Angel Stadium last night and getting excited that bb season has started. Wake up this morning to find out that the young man who was pitching is killed in a car accident, along with two friends. I keep thinking how pumped he must have been having just thrown 6 shutout innings - and just like that his life is over. Hit by a drunk that already had a DUI and suspended license.

Once again God sheds a tear with us.

He had his father come out to see the start . Another thing I found out is that he lived just a few miles from my home. My wife and I have 5 sons , at various ages . His family must be devastated . I know if this were one of our sons , I would probably wish it were me instead. I went home yesterday and hugged our little guys and called the older ones .

I truely hope for God's grace to fall on this family during this time .

I just wanted to add that 2 of Nick's passengers Henry Nigel Pearson and surviving person, Jon Wilhite were from one of our local high schools and they were very loved by the entire community. I can't tell you how many good stories about them both. Henry had such hope and a future and Jon has the same...I pray for Jon's speedy recovery.

Just so everyone knows a little more about Henry, this is his obituary.

Henry Nigel Pearson died in a car accident on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Fullerton. Born in Hackensack, NJ, Henry was 25 when he died. Henry grew up in Manhattan Beach, CA from the age of 3. He was a 2002 graduate of Mira Costa High. Henry graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree. At the time of his death, he was attending law school and developing his own baseball sports management company. His lifelong passion was baseball, which he began at the age of 3. He was also close to a number of Major League Baseball players. Henry touched many lives with his extreme optimism, entertaining personality, and caring nature. There was never a moment in life when he didn't give 110%. He lived life to the fullest and was always there to support his friends and family. • He was so sorry. I'll bet he said the same thing when he got his first DUI. And if he got out after a few years, he'd be so sorry when he did it again. I hope he lives a long life and gets to serve every one of those 51 years thinking about why he is where he is. Triple the legal level of intoxication... He might as well had just gone out with a pistol and started shooting people, because it had the same effect. I have no sympathy for him or any other idiot that drives intoxicated, only for everyone else that suffers the misfortune of being on the road with them.

I'm very happy he received those sentences yesterday. Justice has been served, but the family members and friends of everyone involved has to live with it everyday.

Hopefully more people will be responsible when drinking and I hope more DA's go after the same type of charges as Gallo received in future cases.

I was surprised to see what he looked like in court, not the gang banger he looked like when first picked up pic what a way to throw his life away, he was 22 at the time of the hit and run, it's too bad he took so many people with him.

Well, any half-decent attorney is going to have him clean up his appearance to look like a regular decent guy.

IMO, this is where MADD is wasting their resources. So much energy spent on lobbying for lower limits, more fund-raising via tons of fees/costs on first offenders, etc. Meanwhile repeat offenders keep repeating. Dude is 22 and already had a felony DUI before this one. Unless CA has much different laws than elsewhere, that tells me he had at least 2 priors in 6-ish years of driving.

  • 2 DUI's ought to equal MANDATORY five years behind bars. No questions asked. The first time is bad enough. But a second time? Nope. Not acceptable.
