I have purchased several commons from Burbank in the past with no real issues. If the price is to o high I just do not buy.I really do not like it though when sellers only post a sample of the card and not the actual.I see more dealers do this lately.

It is not the same card, but it just shows that the rare stuff can sell that well.... 1998 Bowman's Best Atomic Booke Value : $30

Yea, they're high on everything. I stop by their place once in awhile to pick up supplies; penny sleeve, and CS1s.
Watching Rob grade cards is very entertaining. You need popcorn and it's better than any comedy movie.
He bought a large lamp with a neck that can adjust between 90 - 180 degrees at Fry's electronics . It has a large magnifier on top as well.
He slides the card under the lamp/magnifier for like 1 or 2 seconds and he's done...on to the next card....and repeat.
He looked over at me once cos I mentioned something about his lamp, and he said "I'm teaching my guys how to grade."
I had to look away otherwise I would of laughed at him.

Its just the blind leading the blind, are they really "over" grading if they dont know how to grade in the first place? Does the back count or its just the front? And wow, 1-2 seconds per card, PSA should hire these guys and they can get all the orders out really quick.
  • I hate to bash a company that I think is good for the hobby. If anything, these guys put up prices they think are fair and see if they can get a buyer. If someone should buy that card that they've been looking for all these years for what they thought was a fair price, it creates immediate value for it. Sure, it could be above the Beckett value, but dont they just report the average sale price for transactions as mentioned? The only alternative to buying from them is waiting for another or going out and buying cases of 1998 Bowman's Best. I'm sure once you went through a case, the $245 wouldn't seem to bad of a deal.
  • Yep, they have a lot of cards that I need and they want over high bv for them. I want to complete my set but I'm not going to get crazy about it.

From what I've heard they'll be happy to provide scans for $2 or $3 per card. While that also sounds ridiculous, it does keep the labor costs to a minimum and the riffraff away. It also is a small price for people willing to pay a couple hundred on a modern card.

They charge a potential customer 2 or 3.00 so that customer can see what they are buying?

    Interesting concept.
