It was one heck of a flashback seeing Jr in that M's uniform. His swing has not changed a bit, man did he stroke that ball into the seats. Pretty memorable moment for me. Jr was and is my all time favorite, as I was living near Seattle during his Mariner days. Of course, like many say...Its too bad he didnt stay...

I saw him and his Dad hit back to back HRs vs the Angels. Surreal...

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

<< <i>If it ever came out that he did, well then I will have lost faith in baseball. He was the best ever in my book... >>
I don't know about best ever but I will say best in my lifetime.
AND untainted from the steroid era, very rare indeed.
Easily would be at 700+ HR's if not for the multitude of injuries that he endured.

Hope he reaches a few more milestones ....
10,000 at bats?
31 home runs? (to pass Mays)
because he played forever. Would anyone ever had guessed back in 97 that his numbers today would be only what they are today? He has been disappointing
in the last decade, even if he retires drug free.

<< <i>I don't doubt that, but so much more was expected from Jr than just this. >>
That's like saying there was so much more expected from Brien Taylor. While his production has gone down due to nagging injuries, he's still a first ballot HOFer without question. Think Don Mattingly, with a lot more resilience (and talent).
Amen! No clue at all.

umm no, Griffey was supposed to be the next Mantle, the next Ted Williams, the guy who was to eclipse Aaron's record. He kinda just ran down like an old
clock, Cincy gave him a lot of money, but it didn't really help. He has played 20 years now, you are going to have stats if you play that long. Disappointment
in my book.

The next Ted Williams or the next Mickey Mantle? How about the first Ken Griffey Jr? He is only the 4th player in MLB history to reach over 600 HRs without steroids. How can that be disappointing? Granted, he did lose lots of time to injuries, but 13 x All Star, 10 Gold Gloves, an MVP, over 2,700 hits & 630 HRs are the numbers of a no doubt about it all time great who can stand shoulder to shoulder with Williams, Mantle or anyone else for that matter.
You have high standards, bro!
Dave
just average. Is anything great about Griffey after say 1999? Funny he hit 52 homers the year Mac hit 70, and then never touched that number
again, I find that interesting.
and no one ever brings in "games lost to war" in a Ted Williams argument. He lost games during his prime, Junior was breaking down when he was over
the hill. Most of the stats you mention are voted upon..gold gloves (like that means anything for an OF), MVP's, All Star games. Missing are things
like batting titles and world championships. I don't know, maybe Cincy brought him in just to fill seats and not to actually win rings.
first ballot HOF, for sure, but should of been much much more.

He actually did better then I thought this season. His OPS+ was 95. I didn't pay attention enough. I thought he was much lower than that. The dude is old though. Could be quite rough.
I can't make a steroid claim either way on him or anyone from this era.
Dissapoint? Actually, with all the pre career hype he got, he is one guy that actually lived up to it!!! Yes, definitely the injury years in Cincy were a bummer though.
Ted Williams is the pinnacle of hitters. That guy missed the war years AND he could have played a few more seasons at the end and done well. Not favorable for anybody when they are compared to him.
