Has anybody done any business with ebay seller decoyspread ?

I was fairly excited about a purchase until I got an invoice that says no paypal. Also no recent feedback.

Not a red flag yet, but definitely a yellow flag.

Mike, I dont think you will have any problems with this guy. I purchased something from him maybe a year + ago and had no problems.

No paypal? How does he get over with that? His auction pages shows that he does accept it.

Just another guy that makes up his own rules.

<< <i>You are bidding on the 1962 Mantle only! This is a great card. PSA Graded, no returns! My perfect feedback speaks for the card. You will not be disappointed with this card. WINNING BIDDER MUST CONTACT ME AT bngd@cox FOR PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS! Buyer pays for shipping and insurance. >>

Like the others said, you probably should be ok.

If I was me making the purchase, I would have contacted him about the payment instructions and for a larger scan since he offers no returns and specified to contact him about payment instructions. If you wanted to bite the bullet, you could always forward his payment info to ebay as it's clearly in violation of their sellers policy. I guess it depends on your mood and how badly you want that card right now.

    Good luck to you,
    brian

    Edit to add:
If you pay by a method of Paypal you are definitely taking a risk...Yes the ebayer has a good history, but the bulk of his history is as a buyer and only has 4 selling reviews.

The more I think about it. I would bite the bullet and report him if he doesn't let you pay with Paypal.

I wouldn't pay by any method other then the one I wanted to pay.

The guy is just circumventing ebay's policy on payment.

What is to say that when you get the card in hand you are unhappy with it and
    have no recourse?

    There are other 62 Mantles.

    Steve, very good points.

Tough to judge but it looks like a very nice Mantle!

Personally I wouldnt be too concerned, he has enough transactions to make me believe he is ok.

The answer is quite simple. You didn't get a world beating bargain and there was no mention that PayPal was not an accepted form of payment.

If it were me, I would advise the seller that I expect to pay via PayPal. If the seller states they requested, "WINNING BIDDER MUST CONTACT ME AT bngd@cox FOR PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS!" then I'd simply forward the details to eBay and leave a negative for the seller stating, "Seller REFUSES PayPal pyaments!"

Now, had the seller stated, "ALL BIDDERS MUST CONTACT ME AT bngd@cox FOR PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS!" then maybe the seller would have an out, but that is not the case.

Had you won the item for a significant savings (VCP is actually less than you paid), then I might consider the risk, but there is absolutely no need to take a risk of any sort in this matter REGARDLESS of his 100% feedback or your desire for the card. This is the seller's problem and you shouldn't have to feel the slightest bit uncomfortable with the transaction or payment.

    Mike,

No mention of NOT accepting PayPal while displaying the PayPal Logo just doesn't sit well with me.

He should have asked potential bidders to contact him about payment before placing their bids.

He's definitely circumventing fees with this practice.

I think having the word "decoy" in his user ID was the red flag image

The ball is in your court ... play by YOUR rules!

The guy isn't a newbie seller ... he's been around eBay since 1997 and his deception is obvious.

Nobody will contact him at bngd@cox - that's not a right email address. I presume he probably meant bngd@cox.net but I'd worry about a seller who can't even do his email correctly.

Is this the guy? (see the end of the paragraph) If it is, I'd say it's unlikely he is a scammer.

If that's not him, I would definitely NOT send this seller any money.

Thanks for the input guys - He's probably OK - just old school.

I never like anybody changing the ground rules after the game has been played, I think it'll be fine.
