Update - the guy (Brett Turcotte) who kept my 48 Leaf and 61 Fleer Bednarik cards wrote to me

Brett Turcotte

Greg,

I have seen your recent posts on Sports Collectors.net and I am possibly the person you are referring to. I recently wrote to Mr. Bednarik and received back my signed index card in addition to a 1948 Leaf and 1961 Fleer. I am sorry if you are upset, but I will not be sending you back these cards. I am not dishonest, but there is no way you can prove the cards are yours. I feel that Mr. Bednarik sent me the cards as a gift because of the nice letter I wrote. He would not have sent them if he did not want me to have them. If the cards did originally come from you, I am sorry, but I also feel that ownership is 9/10ths of the law. Once you send something through the mail, it may or not come back. I hope you understand my stance and wish you the best with your collection. I have never had cards this nice before and I have even been thinking of exclusively collecting the older stuff from now on.

Good luck!

Brett

Wow, that's really lame. I'm speechless, really - I really thought that if someone identified themselves as having received your cards, they'd be happy to make sure they got to the right place. I know it's an overused phrase (to the point of being irritating), but I am genuinely sorry this happened to you.

Do you have any doubles of other auto'd Bednarik cards you could offer him if he will return your cards?

IMO there is NO WAY that note came from "Brett Turcotte". My guess is it is someone who is busting the balls of both of you guys (or at least yours)!

HOWEVER, if it really is from him (I highly doubt it), he is one of the biggest a$$holes in the collecting world.

If that's really from him, he needs to be blackballed by the card collecting community. That is the most utterly ridiculous thing I ever heard. I wouldn't have said anything instead of saying that if I were him. What a moron!!! Sorry Greg.

I've offered to give him 2 signed Bednarik cards, but he has refused thus far. He offered to send me his index card. How generous.

Some folks might be comfortable negotiating with SCUM,
but I would never do that.

I would crush the SCUM with a lawsuit.

His "prove it" comment is nonsense.

His gross admissions against interest would almost "guarantee"
a win for the plaintiff in Small Claims.

Additionally, your pre-auto scans would ID the cards.

Greg start threads on every board you post on with this topic and post scans of the original cards. This guy is remarkably stupid.

    Greg,

Do you have scans of the cards that prove you had them? Obviously I believe you, I'm asking so that you can use them to nail this guy. Man, I am so pissed off just reading what he wrote to you. It makes my blood boil knowing that they are creatures like this in our hobby. Unfreakinbelieveable. Sorry you've had to go through this.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

If the guy who emailed you is not spoofing you,
he needs to be taken down.

Greg ... if you will not post his email here I suggest you PM EVERYBODY who has responded to you on this thread with his email.

If some A$$HOLE is just making up the name (BRETT) and sending it to you, our emails back to this same loser will not do much good. But what the hell!

Here is his latest e-mail. At least he offered free shipping...lol...

    Hi,

The image you sent doesn't really look like the one I am familiar with. I am sorry, but we are going to have to agree to disagree. Since the card is worth more than I thought and I have 5 other Bednarik autographs, I may put this one for sale on Ebay. If I do, I will send you the link and if you decide to bid, I will waive the shipping charges if you win.

    Thanks,

    Brett

    Storm,
Why do you disagree with sending him some Emails? I think many voices bring more credence than just one. Not that we should be negative or nasty, but those of us that have had positive transactions with Greg can note his honesty. It may not prove succesful, but I don't see how it would hurt.

I just e-mailed him asking for a scan of the card. Storm has a good point - the sender could be one of the trolls from the sportscollectors.net board who is having a little fun.
