National Copper Plate Portraits -- Pretty Pictures

I just had the opportunity to view (and take a few photographs of) what may be the only surviving complete set of 1898-1899 National Copper Plate Portraits (see Page 240 of the 2009 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards).
I wanted to share just one of the "cards" from that set with you as a preview of an article that will be appearing in the next few weeks in Sports Collectors Digest and on the SCD web site. In studying the complete set, it became abvious that the SCBC write-up has a number of niggling little mistakes that need to be corrected. (OK, so I'm the guy who wrote the original catalog listing . . . my bad.)
These NCP portraits are so rare that I've only seen a handful of low-grade singles in all of the major sportscard auctions over the past 20+ years and, of course, never a complete set. This was a rare treat to see the "rookie cards" of such superstars as Honus Wagner, Willie Keeler and Elmer Flick, and the only collectibles ever issued of a handful of other major leaguers whose careers fell after the Old Judge years and before the T-card hey days.
Here's the National Copper Plate Portrait of fan favorite and today's collector favorite "Dummy" Hoy.

Super cool!
Thanks for sharing the pics.
These days, instead of "Dummy" Hoy, his nickname would be : "Handi-capable hearing-impaired" Hoy ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
