The HUGE headline on ESPN says IVERSION OUT FOR SEASON. My gosh, a bit dramatic don't you think? Especially since there are only seven (7) games left. The huge headline would be appropriate if being out for the season meant that Iverson (or any player) was going to miss say .... 20 to 25 games or more. But seven (7) games? Come on now.
It's similar to when a big player in basketball goes down with an injury. Invariably, a homer reporter will say, "well, that's 25 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, etc., that you're losing." That would be true if the replacement player scores 0 points, grabs 0 rebounds, dishes out 0 assists, etc., and that simply will not be the case.

<< <i>perhaps the headline was huge because the season includes the playoffs -- where Detroit is headed. And maybe because Iverson makes $20 million a year >>
That is what I'm thinking. Depending on how Iverson's injury responds, it could be a huge deal for Motown.

That's why it's a big deal...
