Ken Griffey JR. Thread

Ok I have broken down and started a thread.
I figure it would be a good way to talk and trade Griffey.
Anybody else collect Jr. ?
Nice price on the Phoenix Magnet

Good question, I was hoping some Griffey collector could tell me image I bought a "set" of these on eBay awhile back for the Ripken that came with it. They're not listed in the SCD or Beckett big books and I haven't seen any others for auction. It's perforated in 3 parts, the top card part is a normal size card. The back doesn't have any stats, more like an entry form where you can fill out the "Competitor name" and their skills scores.

I was telling Don in a PM, there are multiple versions of these cards. They were handed out at a kid's athletic competition and the cards themselves should be identical to the pack release if I remember correctly.

On second look, I've never seen a single card promo like the Griffey...it looks like it may have been handed out in Toys-R-Us stores rather than at the event.

They're an item that few collectors know about.

Here is an example of the ones I'm familiar with:

Wow...ya know, I think this is a really cool find. These must have been in stores as registration cards...then the large sheets were given at the event itself.

Would love a couple of these but they are impossible and expensive.
I bought this last year on Ebay and was my only purchase in almost 2 years.

From what I remember of the auction description, I think the seller said they were given away at the Toys R Us checkout lines.

John, I'm not completely foreign to the sheet issues I posted. I search for them fairly often. In that time I've never seen one of those individual cards pop up.

If it helps your searching, the other Diamond Skills cards I have are: Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Cal Ripken Jr., Carlos Delgado, Pedro Martinez, Derek Jeter, Randy Johnson, and of course, Griffey

I got this signed back in 1990 at a show.

With all the folks paying $1500+ for buy-backs, I've thought about listing this on Ebay with a high BIN/OBO and seeing what happens. image

I'm currently building a run from 1989 - current base upper deck psa 10s of Griffey. When complete (and he retires) I plan on having a nice display made, and may add some patches or something to it. When that time comes, I'll definitely be soliciting ideas from the board.
    Currently Buying:
2004 Tommie Harris SPX Printing Plate (White Whale will pay top $$$)
1994 SP Football Die Cuts PSA 10s

I thought about doing that with a Topps PSA 10 run just base cards which would be easy if it were not
    for the 1990 one.

What is the deal with his 90 topps cards? Is is tough to get a 10? I have always liked JR and wish him the best in Seattle this year.

Yes his 90 Topps card is very tough to get a ten. Possibly because of the blue border? There is 9 total.

I think 1990 Topps are tough in general to get 10's on, mostly due to the crappy quality control.

Major League Baseball great Ken Griffey Jr. has made the central Florida luxury community of Isleworth his second home for several years. Located in the town of Windermere, which is just outside of Orlando, Isleworth is a notorious residential hot spot for other celebrities, including Shaquille O'Neal, Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara, and Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl.
Griffey, who has has had a residence in Isleworth for several years, recently moved into his new dream home in the community. Construction on the gigantic new home began in late 2005 and was completed in early 2008. Set on over ten acres, Ken Griffey Jr.'s lakefront mansion has seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and a half, swimming pool, home theater, boat dock, and 24,457 square feet. click here to see a large aerial photo of Ken Griffey Jr.'s home.

Griff would have hit at least 100+ additional dingers simply facing Twins pitching had he chose to stay in the AL.
