This coin didn't make a MS 67 grade.. Because?
I think the breast feathers on the reverse.. and the weak strike on the obverse..
I say solid MS 66..
Opinions please.. Everyone loves to learn..

67's should have booming luster.
The strike, especially the hair above the ear of Liberty, is a tad weak...
Nice coin.

Here are two NGC 67s of the same date
#2 NGC 67
#3 NGC 67
Here are two more NGC 66s same date
#4 NGC 66
#5 NGC 66
What can you see?
I would say coins #2, 3, and 4 all have better luster than #1. Marks limit coin #4 to MS66. Coin #5 is about even with coin #1.
That said, hide off the labels, and I might get 66/67 right about 70% of the time, less with toners. For most it is a bit easier to compare images or coins side by side, and to say which coin looks better.

Very nice comparison. I do think #1 has the least marks. But am I missing something, shouldn't the breast feathers stand out more vivid and stern on the eagles chest?
I see also what others are talking about the strike on the obverse, weak, plain. That was a hard year also for minting Morgans yes?
Thanks fellows it's a treat to hear whatca thinking..
a better strike for the higher grade.
<< <i>I didn't think strike affects grade..... >>
In market grading (which is what is used in the market place now), strike is one of the four components for grading. These four are:
Strike
Luster
Surfaces
Eye appeal (THE most important determinant)
Strike is NOT a factor when using technical grading, however.
