Keual Norimberg

I found this stamped on a medal I recently obtained. I thing that Norimberg is a city (possibly near Dresden). Is Keual a company? There are two dots over the e.

Can anyone provide me with insight?

    Probably referring to Nuremberg, Germany.

I usually see Nurenberg spelled as "Nürnberg." I presume, then, that there are variants of the English spelling?

  • It was minted in Southern California by some surfer dudes. They were trying to say, "Man! This is one cool Nuremburg!", but being surfer dudes, they couldn't spell.

Norimberg is apparently the proper Slovak spelling of Nürnberg - final K for Czech or add an A for Italian. Really, I've seen it spelled/spelt/spelld a million different ways (have to remember most languages didn't use standardized spellings until the late 1700s, of course, folks still write funny). Nuremberg has been the source for more than a few producers of medals and tokens, so it is possible if not likely that that is what this is. The diaeresis on E can be found in a few languages, though is often omitted. No clue on Keual.

What's the rest of the medal feature, I'm curious now! image

This actually is a "cool" looking medal. I probably will image it this weekend.
It was described as a carnival medal. However, the legends are in that gothic type script (Low German?) so I cannot really make out exactly what is written. Something about a 4th Council in Dresden, it appears.
