"Schilling holds the major league record for consecutive starts without allowing an unearned run, at 69 games. In doing so, he broke his own major league record of 53 straight games. The streak ended when he gave up an unearned run against the Yankees on May 23, 2007. In the game in which he broke his own record, he tied the American League record for extra-base hits allowed in a game with 10."

    Interesting record - would need a lot of luck as well as pitching skill involved there, and of course playing for a solid fielding team.

    Wikipedia is "known" for prank posts and inaccurate data at times - I'd like to see this record verified by a reputable baseball reference source, because it is a bit hard to believe, especially being consecutive.

    Below are links to Curt Schilling's game log for ...

    2007;

    2006;

    2005; and

    2004.

    You can see that in on May 23, 2007, he gave up 1 unearned run after 9 starts with 0 unearned runs.

    For 2006, he had 31 starts all with 0 unearned runs.

    For 2005, he started 3 games at the beginning of the season, had some relief appearances, and then started 8 games at the end of the season; all 11 games were with 0 unearned runs.

    So we're up to 51 consecutive starts.

    For 2004, Schilling ended the REGULAR season with 18 starts with 0 unearned runs. So yes, it appears that Schilling did have a streak of 69 consecutive regular season starts without giving up an unearned run. I say regular season because Schilling gave up unearned runs in the 2004 playoffs to the Angels and St. Louis.

    Is this the record? I'm not sure. But according to ESPN's records, he did have that 69 in a row.

    I thought Hershiser held that record?

    Or am I missing something?

    Ahhh it's unearned runs, well that means his fielders were doing the job.

    Hershiser holds the record for earned runs not allowed.

    Hershiser's record is for most consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

    I thought it was for runs of any kind, earned or unearned, e.g., scoreless innings.

    I think George Brett holds that record the night he went to the Bellagio.
